Dog Vs minibus

Ddog was hit by a mini bus a couple of days ago - full force to the head

She was knocked out cold for over 10 minutes - obviously went straight to vets and she seems to have had a very very lucky escape as only has a broken tooth ( op next week) and concussion. She stayed at vets all day for observations and snuggles from the staff - and a road safety chat :)

She is very wobberly on her feet, also on pain meds - any ideas how long before she's 'back to normal' it's so strange seeing her slowly wandering then sleeping she's is getting lots of snuggles and is only on wet food.

She's only a small dog 8kg.

We are very very lucky to still have her but I don't know much about head injuries in a dog? Anyone have any experience?

I can'tell answer your questions but just want to give you and your dog loads of sympathy.

She is an incredibly lucky dog. Also just wanted to give my sympathies. I don't know about head injuries but I'd imagine a while for her to feel totally normal, especially since she is so small to have been in an accident like that and survived. It is probably worth calling the vet just make sure it's all still normal.

Without something like CR or MRI to check her skull and neck it's impossible to say.
However I wouldn't be rushing to anaesthetise a dog with major head trauma for a dental a week later. Sort out the tooth when she's fully recovered

This has made me sad☹️I hope your doggy gets better x

Dd had concussion a few weeks ago and the Dr said its like being hungover and can last 6 weeks.
Assume a wobbled brain is the same for poor pooches. .
Very lucky pooch.

She is due to go back to vets in a few days they said to leave it about a fortnight for the op to remove the broken tooth (it's a canine) because she was knocked out

Obviously she is getting lots of snuggles and I have put a blanket over her as she seems a bit cold. We are just so thankfully she is still with us. Dh who was walking her (on lead) at the time wasn't sure when he got to her if she was alive or not. She just lunged back across the road straight in the path of the mini bus - the driver was lovley and even checked in with the vets.

I will call the vets for advice especially the sleeping and the fact she's a bit cold
