Ear injection?

8 year old terrier keeps shaking his head and rubbing his ears on the floor.

Just had a look in his ears and they're covered in a thick brown discharge.. I think wax?

However he went to the groomer a week ago and she mentioned that she'd got rid of ton of wax from his ears... currently on holiday at the moment (typical)! Is it worth a visit to the vet when we get home on Friday?

Yes it sounds like a vet trip is on the cards unfortunately. Is it brown/ black colour and does it smell? Also does the skin on the inside of the ear look red or darker pink than normal? It is classic infection symptoms to head rub and keep shaking their heads. Sad

It is brown/ black not smelly but in both ears :( poor thing!! 😢

Can't you get to a local vet?

hugomcwooferton · 05/09/2017 23:50

@Wolfiefan can I go to a vet I'm not registered to? If so that'd be great!

I can't see why not. Surely they can contact your vets if there's any relevant history.

Yep - just go to whichever vets is closest in the morning to you and get him checked. It's fine to do that, people do it every day.

Yes you can take to alternate vet if you are away from home. Just be aware some will want you to pay in advance - so you may have to pay for the check-up before going through to vet, then if ear drops/medications are needed, you'd pay for those before leaving, rather than just having a bill sent out.
