we have a west highland terrier that is over 11 years old and is very poorly so the decision has been made to get him put today.

I'd like to stay with him until he's gone. has anyone gone through a similar situation? do you have any advice to share as I'm absolutely gutted and want to make it the most calm experience possible - for both me and the dog.

TIA x

No advice I'm afraid but just wanted to say I'm so sorry and send you a huge hug.

Oh we have gone through this twice. Our vet came to our house both times which was a bit nicer (our dog hated the vets). You can stay with them. Talk to them. Stroke them. It is so peaceful but very sad.

Thinking of you x

Am so sorry.

Yes, been through it a few times. Your vet will talk you through what will happen. Take a blanket with you if you plan on taking him home to bury him. It should be quiet and peaceful.

I'm so so sorry. When we went through this, I held his face, stroked him and talked to him. x

I've been at several animal deaths ( small pets/ dogs/ cats / horses) and I've never attended one that wasn't peaceful . I've always preferred to have them done at home and then for anything larger than a guinea pig I take them to the local animal crematorium or call the gentleman to collect them . I hope it goes smoothly for you whatever you decide . If you do want to have the deceased cremated and ashes returned to you you will probably find it is much cheaper to organise it yourself and that also enables you to choose the urn / box etc .

So sorry to hear that OP, hope it is peaceful Flowers

Princess How you doing?

princesseggo · 02/09/2017 15:41

Thanks for all of the lovely replies everyone. I'm doing okay, just heartbroken! Loosing a pet is never easy but I'm glad he's finally getting some rest.

It'll hurt and you'll have good days and bad days, but you did the right thing for him Flowers
