If you want to adopt a dog (rather than puppy) but have a 7 year old how do you navigate the online systems of DT or Battersea or any other rescue centres that you can think of? Please

If you want to rescue a dog about 5 - 8 years old

But you have a child aged 7 years and Labrador dog already

The online systems just say older children or teenagers - how old is an older child? (Kind of assumed 10 - 12)

Are there any other options apart from dogs trust or Battersea that might let a very dog experienced family with an adult Labrador and a 7 year old child adopt an adult dog?

Am asking on behalf of my cousin Smile

EGLR would rehome to them and take everyone on a case by case basis

Black Retriever X would consider them, and are often looking for homes where another settled dog is already living.

Smaller, independent rescues are often more likely to be flexible when it comes to rehoming criteria and work on a case by case basis. Many are also foster-based rather than using kennels which means they have a much better idea of how the dogs are in a home (and often family) environment.

Most breed clubs have their own welfare schemes which again tend to be flexible and foster based so if there are specific breeds they like then those are well worth looking into.

Greyhound rescue - we have two children (6 and 8) and a guinea pig (!). No problems at all with getting our gorgeous hound who has filled our lives with joy (I know it sounds a bit vomit inducing but we all love her so much!).

With DT its best to speak to someone in the rehoming centre, rather than try to workmout which dogs are suitable online - i think with DT a fair amount depends on the child in question (i.e. a sensible 7yr old child who is very dog-savvy is very different to an excitable 7yr old very prone to squealing when playing who has never had any real dog experience).

A couple of my friends got their rescue dogs through wildatheart. They both rate them highly.
