My dog has a bleeding nose

Just that really - she's been in good form recently & not off her food or water that we've noticed.

This morning I saw drops of blood on the tiles and realised she was sneezing a lot.

I called the vet and she reckoned dog might have burst a blood vessel by sneezing and asked if she had any allergies to grass - she's a 9 year old Labrador who has always lived here (on a farm) so i'd have thought any grass allergies would've been noticed before now?

But she told me to give her a hay fever tablet & see how that went.

Dog does seem to have stopped bleeding but is still sneezing and her wee left eye looks all bloodshot too.

At the minute I'm just being watchful, anyone else any experience of this?

No experience of nose bleeds in dogs but when my horse had blood dripping from her nose ( not vast amounts ) she had fractured her frontal sinuses and it was very serious , so I would get it checked out asap .

I'd get it checked, in case it's a grass seed or something lodged? I have ongoing nightmare issues with my cocker spaniel and grass seeds so am always paranoid Grin.

It can be a sign of a nasal tumour - Particularly if just one nostril - it does need a thorough examination by your vet.

I would not be impressed with a vet who thought fit to 'diagnose' something like this in a phone call.

There are quite a lot of reasons for nose bleeds in dogs. Some of them serious, some of them not so serious but the dog needs to be seen by the vet so a proper diagnosis can be made.

Definitely a vet visit needed. Very odd to give that sort of advice over the phone. Which type of 'hay fever tablet', anyway? Some are suitable for dogs and some aren't!
