Hi. I have a just turned 7 year old Jack Russell cross.

She's always been potty trained. She never goes in the house even when I go work.

I'm currently half way through my pregnancy with my 2nd and we are trying to train our dog by sleeping in her own bed at night as she's always been a bit spoilt and been allowed to jump on the bed and sleep at our feet.

Every single night recently she's either urinating or soiling. I'm not 99% it's not vet related. We make sure she has a toilet break before bed. Please help me. I am so worried about it happening with a newborn xx

Has she been checked over by a vet? Is she restless or vocalising or showing any other signs of distress?

It could be senile cognitive dysfunction (dementia) which can be treated with medication, or it could be separation-related distress - it might be worth videoing her to assess her behaviour

If you have let her for 7 yrs sleep on yr bed with no pooing ..then you move her downstairs to her bed...she's confused, doesn't know why,is getting stressed and stress pooing / weeing...7 yrs on yr bed ,why the change now..you have one child ?? And she's slept on yr bed with a problem??

With out a problem..sorry

She's obviously used to sleeping in the room with her humans..could someone sleep downstairs on a sofa untill she got used it

Is she drinking more than usual? My dog passed away last year from kidney disease and the first indicator that she was unwell was her urinating in the house at night. She also started drinking a lot. She was much older than your dog, however (am I right in thinking 7 is no age for a Jack Russell?!) As PP have said, she could be confused about her change in circumstances. Good luck with her, I'm sure it's a stress you don't need, especially when pregnant!

I took her to the vets yesterday evening. Nothing wrong with her which I'm very pleased about. I should have mentioned I'm just trying to get her to sleep in her own bed next to my bed so she's still in the room with me. When my first born son was born she was a puppy so was in a crate in the kitchen. It's only as they both got a bit older I spoilt her and let her have the run of the house.

Yes clamclam shes only just turned 7. Only just had her birthday. No change in diet or drinking habits. Ah bless you. It's horrible losing your fur baby. I'm definitely thinking it's separation related. She is my shadow and a nervous one at that. I made the mistake spoiling her I guess by letting her go on bed/sofa etc.

Could you try the crate next to your bed? I've found that puppies don't generally want to wee/poo in the crate as that's where they sleep. Haven't used it for older dogs so don't know if this would work but if she did wee/poo at least it would be in one place and on newspaper etc so easier to clean up?
