Yay so happy for you and especially the beagle.
We have 2 quite big dogs (both male). I never wanted 2. I was insistent I was not having 2. We had a 1 year old that I had trained and was literally perfect - walked brilliantly on lead, had great recall, was never destructive even as a 9 week old puppy, was house trained in 3 days etc etc.
The my husband rescued a dog of the same breed (long story). He was 7 months and had been pretty badly treated plus never socialised at all (never even walked), never lived in a house. We were only meant to be fosterers never meant to keep him.
Off he goes to his new home and a week later the rescue association phone and say it hasn't worked out can we take him back but only as a foster while they sort out new home. So we do.
Anyway repeat the above 3 more times with the longest time in his supposed new home a week and the shortest 1 night!
Back he came and no way was I letting that poor boy go anywhere else. I wanted to rename him Boomerang because he just kept coming back!
He has been bloody hard work. House training seemed to take forever and because he is large he would pee a lake over the carpet! He has destroyed books, phones, tv remotes (at least 6), cushions, dog beds.
But my existing dogs seems to adore him. He literally taught him how to play by taking toys to him then throwing them in the air and playing. They play together all the time, they often lay together and will even eat out of the same bowl - they obviously get 2 bowls but will often share them both with their heads in the bowl.
I am the main walker and I can't walk them together so they get separate shorter walks and when my DH is around they get a long walk with both of us.
Rescue dog likes to lay on the settee on his back with his head on my lap so he can stare adoringly at me.
