my puppy is pretty good at going on the pad, will only do morning one on the pad I find the others are away from the pad? and is great at being half on half off the mat when peeing Hmm but he does go to it so good for me.

so since walking him, he will sometimes poo out on walks but as soon as he gets in will run straight to the pad to pee. ive tried taking him out the front when he heads towards the pad for a wee but I guess the urge is gone from the distraction.
ive tried taking the pad out the front too he will just run back to the spot - where pad is usually and pee. I have odour destroying cleaner. I shut the front door and he will just lay down and stay til I go back in.

yesterday I tried to keep him on a house line and take him out for a stupid amounts of walks or sit out the front garden with him for ages. he just wont go. any advice would be great.

so what sort of age do they start holding it through the night? how will I know if Im starting a new habit by not letting him learn to hold it instead of letting him out at 3.30. or am I over thinking it all.

Oh he's a baby.

Yes, adolescence can be a bit trying. My dog, and I think this is a common one, refused to be put back on the lead; she'd come back when called, but would stay just out of arms reach and then dash off again. I swear I could hear her laughing.

She was on a trailing lead for months following one particularly traumatic incident - traumatic for me that is. Yes, as you say, joy. :)

The holding through the night thing is a bit of an individual thing I think.

My dog seem to get house training very quickly, but I think I was lucky. Some dogs take longer. I think you just sort of know when they've got it and can go overnight. Letting him out at night for now won't get him into bad habits for life.

ok maybe I guess me and the sofa will be friends for a while yet Wink i guess i'll know when he doesn't pull to toilet in early hours then.
i slept on the sofa the 1st week i got him and then slowly crept upstairs to bed.

i have a long lead too as he needs more recall training. DD drop the lead one day and he was nearly road kill! and DD mind as she was running after him. scary moment. i know to random call and give treats now and again to keep him guessing if he will get a treat.
