Smelly Pup

Hi everyone.
Last week I picked up a gorgeous rescue puppy who they think is around 3-4 months old. He was found on the street, covered in fleas and parasites and near death.

The vet has treated him, and the day I picked im up they checked again for parasites etc and he is all clear. I have to take him back again on the 17th to have him checked over.

He is the most beautiful little thing, he is eating well, already trained, sleeping all night and has a lovely nature. But he smells very much of dog. His fur hasn't all grown back yet, and he is still itching at times, but isn't distressed.

Any tips on making him less smelly? I have washed his bedding, hes been outside in the garden a lot, I have tried to give him a gentle brush. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. The vet said to bath him on Friday, and I will wash all his bedding etc again.

Oh bless him. No mange or anything?

I got some doggy wipes on Amazon, very gentle and can be used for ears and over eyes too. Sorry can't remember the name! They smell nice and help in between baths 😊

You can also get doggy dry shampoo (seen it in pets at home I think) but not too sure about using too many chemicals....and my dog HATES squirty bottles so I've never tried it.

I did use baby wipes once but not sure for all over!

No mange, they did a skin test last week and he is clear.

I heard bicarb of soda is good, has anyone used it on a dog?

Will he be smelly forever?

If it's a "doggy" type smell it could be down to food. So once you can change food, you may find he smells less.

Our dog, who we rehomed, used to smell.
Changed his food & clean his ears regularly. He's a different dog now & has put on 1.5 kgs (v skinny before)

Yes a good quality food will make a real difference to the way he smells.

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy Smile
