Dachshund puppy behaviour. (advice needed)

I had a dachshund before when I was younger (29 now) he sadly passed away a few years ago so we decided to get another...

He is 16-18 weeks old, he is lovely in the house he has taken to his puppy mats and toileting outside frequently and dry nights.

The only issues I'm having are that he doesn't want to walk on his lead, he is very stop/start. He is better when the kids are with us as he follows their feet but still not brilliant.

Also he nips a hell of a lot. Usually the book case etc or kids toys. But he isn't afraid to nip at the kids socks and toes. Also me and my wife get will nip when he is playful and open skin is a target.

Any advice to pass onto me would be greatly appreciated.

Our dachshund was reluctant to walk on the lead as a young pup. I think it was just nervousness about the big world. Perseverance paid of with very regular short walks and lots of reassurance. Avoid busy noisy places, keep it calm and quiet to start with.
Can't help with the nipping ours never did that.

Our dachshund was a terrible walker when he was younger. Lots of stopping and lying down and he was even worse if there was any kind of time pressure. He seemed to just grow out of it. He's 17 months now and walks really well, so hopefully yours will do the same. I think the breed reputation for stubbornness is well founded!

We had the same issue with nipping, and he still loves to chew things. Is he teething? Ice cubes really helped ours when his teeth were hurting him, as did having toys everywhere that we could redirect him onto if he did nip. Ours still occasionally uses his teeth to try and get us to play if he's overexcited so it's still not perfect, but loads better.
