It's not a cockapoo!

Yet again today I had someone stop and ask if my dog is a cockapoo. No she's not, she's a toy poodle! She doesn't look anything like a cockapoo (to me) but I suppose people always think of poodles as having fancy/intricate clips, so if they see my teddy bear looking pup (8 months) wallowing in the village pond, they perhaps assume it couldn't possibly be a prissy toy poodle. I live in a rural area, so don't meet that many people, but I still get this comment regularly. Does anyone else with a poodle get this?

They do look silly with the 'show cut' though!

I love the chocolate ones, my black one had a chocolate brother in the same litter and I really wanted him but DH said no.
They are hard work though, they are very clever and need mental stimulation and a lot of exercise.
When we got back from our walk/bike ride yesterday, the kids, me and my other dog were knackered- the Poodle could have done the same again 5 times over!

My vet said that he feels like shrieking for joy when anyone brings in a dog that isn't some sort of poodle cross, there are so many in my neck of the woods.

I agree that poodles are fabulous dogs.

Randomness, I have had quite a few dogs in my lifetime, but my toy poodle I feel has been the hardest work simply because she is so bright. I do a lot of training with her, far more than any other dog, simply to keep her occupied. If you go off and do something else, she will very quickly get into mischief, so her life has to be quite structured. For example, despite her small size, she is capable of jumping like a kangaroo and pulling things off the kitchen worktops if they are left near the edge. (Guess how we found that out?!) You can teach her to do something after just two or three repetitions. Also, despite her age, she needs a lot of exercise to even half wear her out. Poodles are full on, no doubt, they are certainly not little dogs who will sit quietly and behave themselves. I have had several Yorkies, and they are totally staid by comparison. She is still a work in progress, and I plan to do agility with her, if I can keep up, but I know she will be a wonderful friend. She has learnt more in a few months than one of my Yorkies did in 14 years!

Well that's me cured then! My JRT is a real bouncy character (long legged) can exercise for hours but also adores her sleep... her life consists of hovering for food, out on a walk/run/play or asleep!

Taken us months to teach sit!

She is beautiful. My lab was having a good run with his standard poodle mate this morning, fantastic breed ( although we regularly get asked if we are putting them together for a litter by other dog walkers - they never seem to notice my boys lack of equipment ). I'd love a standard of my own one day

She is very cute. I am currently on the look out for a miniature poodle but am not having much luck. Everyone seems to want cockapoos or cavapoos and not just a plain old poo!

Here's my poodle cross. He's very clever (evil genius) and loving. I'd definitely consider a pure bred poodle in the future.

We have a giant poodle who we don't clip. Everyone asks if he's a labradoodle so I just say no, he's just has the 'oodle bit.

I shouted 'it's a Standard Poodle!' a little more aggressively than I intended.
She then said 'ooh I see now, yes I can see it in the face'
I wanted to say 'don't lie love, you were adamant a minute ago'

I have a dog with long STRAIGHT hair and get asked all the time is he a labradoodle. To be honest it really annoys me. Even more annoying are the people that tell me he is a labradoodle! I had one person saying "Are you sure" when I said no he isn't a labradoodle!

Mind you a lot of people don't have a clue about dog breeds. I have also been asked if he is a greyhound (with long fur!), a whippet and a poodle!

I have a miniature poodle and every time I go out with him someone says ‘ahh a cockerpoo’ when I reply ‘no he is a miniature poodle’ they begin to discuss with me what the features of a cockerpoo are. Yes my miniature poodle has similar features to a cockerpoo but no he is a miniature poodle! Still they disagree with me! Walk on you non knowledgeable people!

I have a one year old mini poodle. I have only twice in that time have people comment on my poodle. Almost every walk someone assumes he’s a cockerpoo.

He doesn’t really mind to be fair.

I do think poodles are hugely under rated though.

Ours is so amazingly patient with kids. He enjoys joining in whatever mine are playing. He loves a mucky walk (not rain though). He likes us all to be together so will keep checking on the people at the back.

He’s clever but is so well behaved really. He adores any visitors (maybe a bit too enthusiastically). He can bark but only when we aren’t throwing the ball fast enough. He gets his point across with a look. We know he wants a treat when he keeps walking to one of us and then back to the cupboard for a good hard look (repeat as necessary).

I have dog allergies and asthma and he doesn’t effect me at all.

We get this! Sometimes people think he is a cockerpoo other times a labradoodle (he is somewhere between the two height wise). Sometimes I correct them (Spanish water dog), other times I think yer whatever

We have a standard poodle with a similar clip to the OPs. ie no shaved face or paws. We're asked constantly if he's a labradoodle, or "what kind of doodle is he?". Hugely under rated dogs.

I agree with getting a pure poodle. We have a cockapoo (sorrynotsorry) which wasn't what I wanted but she's such a good dog. She has a mini poodle friend and I'd defo consider that dog or a standard in the future!
