Tell me your brain training games

I am disabled so limited as to what games I can play with my one year old large breed. Other family members play more physically so he's not missing out, but I'd like to do things he'd enjoy while we're alone in the daytime.

At the moment we play tug with various toys, I put treats in plastic bottles etc for him to get out, and we play 'which hand is it in' with a squeaker out of a toy that he loves. He also enjoys it if I hide a toy under a blanket and tell him to find it. I also practice sit, paw, lie down with bits of cheese as reward.

Does anyone have any suggestions for games please?

I'm sorry that nobody has come back to you with ideas for games. You don't say how disabled you are and what kind of dog you have so it is difficult to know exactly what would work for you. I suggest that you google Dogmatics dog training and find the YouTube feed with Emily Larlham. She is an amazing trainer and has lots of videos (over 200) of her training tricks with her dogs. I am sure you will be able to find great idea there to keep you both busy.
Good luck!

Have a look at this FB group Lemonade. It's full of great ideas for games and other enrichment activities, there's sure to be some ideas on there you could use.

101 things to do with a box is always a good one. You can substitute any object for the box and it's great fun watching them really think to try and come up with interesting new things to do with it.

Thank you! Your replies have come at a great time as yesterday a dog trainer came out to see us and actually recommended we play brain games with him to help with his issues.

I can't walk far or very fast/well so things like hide and seek and very physical games are not possible for me. He's a very large mastiff.

When my springer was spayed our dog trainer lent us a baby stacking ring set. I used a clicker to try and get her to put the rings back on the stand in the right order. Absolutely knackered her! We also do scent games, so hiding a treat under a selection of cups and she's got to choose the right one. Child bath toys are good because they have holes in the bottom for them to sniff!

We once adopted a dog who had been trained to chase a torch beam. His previous owner was not able to walk and used to sit by an upstairs window with a powerful torch and have the dog running all round the garden after the light.
