Puppykins is 9 yrs old and for the last few days possibly had a limp that was barely there and we were watching him trying to work out if it was there or not. Had told myself to book an appt if I get chance. I'd not had chance. Thiught possible arthritis.

Tonight I came home from work and he has a large solid ball of something on the very top of his front leg. All of a sudden, out of nowhere. He's still not showing pain but he can't walk well now or get up the stairs well due to his leg only being able to move a certain way.

I got home at 6.20 pm and git a vet appt straight away. Drove over and seen within 15 mins max. The vet was wonderful but knew straight away and suggested am x ray to confirm but she's already certain. It looks like pain killers until it's timw which may be incredibly soon or could be months.

He is the best dog with a big heart and the best cuddles. We've spoken to our 5 yr old daughter and she's devastated he may go to heaven. What can I say? He is her nest friend. Her doggy brother. Cannot believe he seemed healthy this morning

Is it totally untreatable? I only know this from watching super vet, but I thought you could have the dog scanned to see if it had metastisied, and if not you could have a stab at surgery or treatment. Especially as it appeared so suddenly. I would definitely go for xrays and scans. Sorry for you and your dog anyway. Shit thing to happen.

She did say it's an option but it simply prolongs the life. The main issues that take away any chance of surgery are that he is 9 and would find the surgery very traumatic. He is a good age for his breed. He is 43kg and all his weight is at the front where the tumour is. It's also at the top of his leg/bottom of his chest so it would be part of his chest/rib that goes too. Incredibly invasive and upsetting to simply add a few months. He seems good today still. The vet called to check as she suspects rapid decline. Appt booked for two weeks to top up meds.

He is quicker up the stairs now he has developed a technique and still loves his cuddles.

I am so sorry to hear this news - you must be devastated. It's very common in greyhounds, sadly. One thing your vet may have discussed with you is that the tumour may have weakened the bone - in this case, the leg is at risk of breaking at any time (excruciatingly painful). For this reason, I know many owners who when osteosarcoma is diagnosed prefer to PTS sooner rather than later, so as to spare their dog. It also allows you to plan a peaceful time at home, rather than needing to respond to a traumatic emergency. I am so sorry - this is a cruel disease.

Oh what a shock to go from ok to finding that. I am so sorry. Hope you are both spending some happy time together.

Apparently it's really common in his breed. They're trying to do research at the minute to see whether it's a genetic or size thing.

Yes the vet did sat a out bones weakening. She also said if it spreads to his lungs he could die from a coughing fit type thing. Apparently that's also horrific for the dog.

It's a shock because in the morning he was fine and now he has a death sentence.

I'll be honest tho, apart from the lump and the limp, he's fine. He's happy and mobile. We've decided to just watch him and see when it's time from his behaviour. However, i am concerned that he will break it wjen we are out and be in pain until we get back.

You can see the whole leg is swelling up. I have no idea why and he's not showing any pain but I feel so sorry for him
