Mast cell tumour

Following a biopsy at the weekend we have been told that one of our labs has a MCT. He's eight and healthy and unbothered by it. He's having it removed on Monday and it will be sent off for grading. I understand that these are quite common - anyone have any experience of them?

Our first boxer had two mast cell tumours removed, one when he was aged four, the other at seven. Both were major ops as they wanted to make sure they got clear margins and both times our vet operated within two days of us finding the tumour - aspirated one day, op the next.

After his second op they gave used different pain relief which we could tell wasn't having much affect as our normally very stoic boy was moaning and crying, so we went back to them within hours of getting him home and got different pain meds for him and he settled pretty quickly after that.

All the best for the op, keep us posted :)

Hope it goes well OP

Our staffies x has had 2 removed...big ops and we were all miserable afterwards
More lumps have appeared but we have decided not to have anymore removed...he is 9 and it's just not fair ( or affordable)
Our vet suggested 2 piriton tabs daily and this does seem to have slowed the buggers down, makes sense because the tumour are a histamine reaction
Good luck

Good luck, hope the OP goes well.

One of mine had some removed, was very uncomfortable after that, but fine ever since, it's been years.

Hope it all goes well.

Had the op yesterday and a bit more invasive than the vets had anticipated (and a much larger scar than I was expecting!! I cried like an idiot in the vets!) Tumour has been sent off for grading. He was still very drowsy until about 2 this morning (anaesthetic and antihistamine) and had his brekkie and more Metacam. Went back this morning for vets to double check his drain (then went back an hour later as he'd given it a tug!) Have now put a snug tshirt on him. Back on Thurs to have the drain removed - can't bear it, he's looking like a poor old soldier Sad

He'll be bouncing around like usual soon enough. Where was the tumour?
