Scabies from kennels - should we complain?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help me.

In May we went on holiday putting our dog in a kennel service.
After we came back from holiday we adopted a second dog. Perfectly healthy 1year old.

Shortly after this we noticed the first dog was itching badly. We treated for fleas, took her the groomers, and visited vets.
Our vet turned out to be useless and after 4 visits, steroids, anti-b etc they only discovered it was scabies when we (myself and DH) have caught them and second dog has started itching.

We have decided not to use this vet practice again after this, as our dog is covered in bald patches and frankly has had a month of hell god bless her.

My friend has told me I should complain or report the kennels. Now I thought scabies was just one of those things, like fleas, that can happen but isn't anyone's fault? My friend is saying they must be contaminated and it's very serious.

Also, in the future should I avoid this kennel? We have a 1 week holiday booked for next year but may ask family to dog sit if this shows the boarding service to be bad?

I'm not the type to complain really, but my friends reaction was quite shocked so I don't know if I'm being too laid back?

Thanks for any replies and help xx

You have two possible sources of infection, the kennels or you new dog. As scabies/mange has a long incubation period it could be either. Have you told the kennels? Any reputable kennels would be horrified by this.
I agree your vet seems rather lax, as it is so easy to diagnose with skin scrapings.
Although you may be itching, it won't last long as humans are not the natural host for dog mange. However, are they certain it's scabies and not ringworm, because that can be passed to humans?

The new dog started showing signs much later, when dog no1 was already seeing vets. For that reason only I believe it's came from our dog and it's visit in the kennels.

Vet has confirmed it's scabies, doctors has given me treatment for scabies (although they did not do any tests on me, just agreed if my dog has it and I have bites that I should use cream).

Could it be that the kennels bedding was not washed between dogs (which I think would give me right to complain) or just our dog was in contact with other kennel dogs (which I doubt I should complain because of)?

I don't want to complain and told be told "not our problem"? But I wouldn't mind an apology as it's really has been hard work this last month x

As a courtesy I'd let them know that your dog has developed scabies shortly after coming home , but I don't see how you can prove where your dog got it from .

If you google about the transfer of dog mange to human scabies you'll see that it doesn't happen as both diseases are species specific. You might get a couple of bites from the mange mites but they won't settle in and take hold.

From emedicine page...

Dog mites cannot live on human skin for more than a few days. They cannot reproduce on human skin, so the infestation usually goes away within a week and does not spread or require treatment. This type of scabies is not contagious between people and usually is not spread from humans to animals.

That is really relieving to know! I can handle bites, hopefully the cream provided resolves redness (and itchiness) soon!

Thank you for all your replies, I will send a informative email rather than compliant.

Has anyone dealt with this with their dogs? Does hair grow back?
My pup is only 8months old and now has one half bald ear xx
