Becoming a dog home boarder

Hi - just looking for your thoughts if possible.

We have 7 year old dog who is quite chilled and easy going. We recently looked after a friend's dog for them and she had a really nice time.

I work from home with flexible hours and am thinking that it might be nice to add in some dog home boarding as there really seems to be a huge demand in our area. This would give our dog company with a variety of other dogs and would bring in a little bit of extra money.

I know I would need insurance and also a license and I would only ever want to take one more dog.

What do you think? Am I being silly? What else to think about?

Thanks!

I think you need to guarantee that any dog you boarded got on with your dog so you would need to make sure they met each other.

Would you be happy exercising any type of dog on or off lead?

What would your insurance cover? What if they became ill in your care? Would you make sure the dog had up to date vaccinations/flea/worm treatment and is insured for illness etc

Thanks for your reply.

From being a dog owner most walkers/boarders seem to offer a free meet and greet which is what I would do too.

I would be happy exercising another dog on lead no problem, off lead would only be with assurances on their recall and I would take full information on each dog from their owner as to the dogs normal reactions with people, dogs etc.

Regarding insurance, I'd take out a specific policy and I have also found a pet first aid course which is run locally. Up to date vaccinations would be a must.

Lots to think about though. It's just an idea at the moment really!
