Sil and bil have gone on a free holiday for a week and have left the puppy (don't know exact age but he isn't 1 yet) at home alone with Mil popping in once a day.
Is that acceptable? it seems cruel but I don't know not a pet owner.

Yay, well done OP!

Well done! You're doing exactly the right thing. Poor little mite. I wonder if they might let you keep him? Sounds like the novelty has worn off with your bil and sil if they could be so callous. It's often the case that people get puppies because they're so cute, but then as they get older and start to be less appealing and more troublesome (because they've not invested enough time in training and socialising them) they lose interest. We've got 2 rescue dogs which were handed in around 7-9 months of age. One had a number of behaviour issues and the other required a hell of a lot training.

But hey ho - so long as your sil and bil are enjoying their free holiday ...

You're a legend. Star

Will post photo when he stays still long enough, he's everywhere at the moment, I guess he's just investigating. Not sure how to deal with sil and bil when they come home so I've got him until Saturday. Quick question, how much should I feed him? Is it 3 or 2 times a day

I totally agree that the poor puppy should not have to endure going back to living with those bastards.......however a nervous aggressive adolescent dog which has been badly treated and under socialised is a job not to be undertaken lightly. It will require experienced handling (or lots and lots of expensive trainer/behaviourist help for a novice and a damn steep learning curve) to iron out the problems caused so far.
Take it one step at a time OP, but be careful what you get yourself into.....I see so many people (I'm a dog trainer) who rescue dogs and have no idea what they've let themselves in for.

Whoknowswhocares · 26/06/2017 10:23

Twice a day will be fine once they are over 6 months.

Fintress · 26/06/2017 10:26

So happy he has someone kind hearted like you to look after him. Disgusted at your relatives leaving the poor little thing on his own. It worries me that they aren't looking after the dog very well.

Somethingbloodyclever · 26/06/2017 10:26

If sil and bil agree to give pup up I won't be able to take him on permanently, as much as I'd love to. Just don't have a life that would fit a pet in especially one that'll need lots of training. But I do have a friend who's a vet and he's got lots of friends who take rescues with problems so I'm sure he'll know someone who can give pup the time and attention he needs.

Hi again, quick update. Pup has a new home. After a lot of arguing with Sil and Bil they decided to give up pup. I couldn't keep him for much longer, he was just to aggressive and I have my 3 dc to think of. So he's gone to a retired vet who has no dc or other animals so pup can have the one to one attention he needs in a calm environment. Felt so sorry for him but he was just to stressed out at mine. Hopefully they can get him to calm down and relax and then start socialising him properly.

Very very well done op. You've saved the dog from a miserable life and given him the best possible chance for a happy one. I wish more people were as thoughtful, kind and proactive as you FlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowers

TwitterQueen1 · 27/06/2017 12:38

Yay! well done OP. You did a lovely thing there.

Bubble2bubble · 27/06/2017 12:54

Well done you :)
Given time, and the right environment and routine the poor pup will be so happy.

NoSquirrels · 27/06/2017 13:00

Oh good. Well done OP. Hope your BIL & SIL are reasonable about it to you- they're obviously not in a place where they can commit to a dog, so you did the right thing even if they're a bit annoyed with you Flowers

disastrouslee · 27/06/2017 13:06

Oh well done OP. Nothing boils my piss like people like your BiL and SIL. Who the fuck does that to a living creature?

Thanks to you it sounds like the pup has landed well and truly on his paws ⚘
