Reasonable training costs

I'm wanting to train Flipdog asap on recall so we can start letting her off. We went to a puppy training class but she's not a puppy and it was mentally chaotic. I have been quoted £80 for 3 hour-long sessions with a private trainer - who is really a behaviourist - does this seem reasonable?

She referred me on to a client of hers who fosters greyhounds and she said she'd been brilliant with her greys in the past. It's quite difficult where we are to find someone who has dealt with ex-racers.

Any thoughts?

Yes it does seem reasonable in price. I had 1-1 sessions (to give me confidence in recall initially) at £30 per hour and trust me you get so much more out of 1-1 than group sessions. It is definitely worth it.

Bitey thanks - she does charge £30 per hour but it's a "deal" - 3 for £80. I think we'll go for it. I need to have some confidence!

Thank you for that.

It was the best thing I did at the beginning. Good luck.

Hi flippety, we took pup to a one to one trainer after experiencing awful recall problems at about six months old. I went with the expectation of putting pup through her paces and starting training immediately. After an hour of chat, watching pup charge and mooch about I was feeling fidgety and rather let down when she calmly said ... you have been here an hour and your pup has not focused on you at all. She then called pup over and started dropping treats on the grass and praising her. Pup soon cottoned on and started sitting very smartly in front of her for more praise and more treats! It was £50 for initial two hour consultation, we came away with hand sheets of impulse control, Recall games, connection exercises and tips on preventing chase. We agreed that pup did not need her obedience class because I was doing well with that...or one to one on an ongoing basis but that we should join her weekly group walk for socialisation, recall, training, manners with other dogs. Five months on we are really getting somewhere, the exercises were good and we still and probably always will practice them intermittently and the group walks remind me weekly what I need to practice with her and I see results week on week. I would say best £50 ever spent.

Thanks Coco - definitely going to give it a go.
