Vomiting and diarrhoea...vets?

Just seeing if anyone has experienced similar and could offer some advice.

We left my 4 year old cairn in the house this afternoon for an hour, when we returned there was diarrhoea everywhere! No blood as far as I could see.

He's then been sick three times over the course of an hour and has had more diarrhoea in the garden. The sick was more like partially digested food than bile but there was absolutely loads of it!

He seems ok in himself, maybe a little folorn looking...like he thinks he's in trouble!

I've now removed his food and water to stop anything from further irritating his gut.

Wwyd? Take him to the vet or see how he is overnight?

I wouldn't remove the water as he will be dehydrated. I would get vet advice

If the vomiting has settled you could see how he goes.Leave water down- little amounts so he can't guzzle. No food overnight. If he is brighter in the morning then maybe feed at lunch- plain boiled chicken and boiled pasta. If he can't keep water down tonight then he needs to see a vet asap. I take it there is no chance he ate something he shouldn't have whilst you were out?

Thanks. I'll put his water back down and make sure he doesn't gulp a load down!
He'll love the chicken and pasta Grin.

No chance he could have eaten anything whilst we were out. We keep him in the hallway so there's nothing he can get his little paws on.

I'll see how he goes overnight and after his breakfast.

If he's drinking and keeping it down, plus not showing any signs of dehydration I'd probably see how he is in the morning unless he gets worse overnight.

If he's either not drinking, drinking and bringing it back up or showing any signs he might be getting dehydrated then I'd get him looked at tonight.

You can check for dehydration by seeing if his skin remains tented after gently pinching it away from his body (it should spring back down pretty much immediately) and by seeing if his gums are dry to the touch.

Thanks everyone.
We booked him into the vets this morning as he wasn't even able to keep water down.
They're going to keep him overnight because he's dehydrated and they think he might have pancreatitis. Sad
