Whenever I pet my dog when I get back from being up or when I get up in the morning she sort of whimpers and whines. I don't know if she likes me doing it or not? She does this with the rest of the family too. Is she enjoying it or should I stop when she does this? Thanks

What is her body language like when she does it?

If she's generally loose and wiggly then she's probably just excited. My DDog2 sometimes makes ridiculous wailing noises when she knows she's about to get her supper because she's so excited about it Grin

If she's showing any stress signals (turning her head away, lip licking, yawning, etc.) then she may not be enjoying it.

Yes, she is wiggly and licky but she makes these sort of whining noises. I am hoping it is just because she is excited. :-)

Sounds like an excited noise. Our pup actually growls when she's playing!

Toooldtobearsed · 09/06/2017 16:09

My youngest lab, at 3 years old still does that. Just 'voicing' her pleasure.

If yours is tail waggy (the whole of the back end wags on mine)! and relaxed, will just be her way 😊

SparklingRaspberry · 10/06/2017 15:06

She's just happy to see you Smile

Mine sort of yowls at us in happiness. We take it as her way of saying "hello!!"

arbrighton · 11/06/2017 09:30

Our two are very noisy

Poodle squeaks with excitement when Oh home, whines when you have her ball but won't yet throw it, has bark to demand ball if other dog gets it(different), growl for playing pull (different to her real one) and there is an almost purring noise if you get the right spot on her ear.

And as for the collie cross well, easiest thing is to say she sounds like Chewbacca at times. And has a horrible special bark for when OH is home and they're both vying for his attention.

It sounds like excitement. My dog has a different 'harrumph!' sort of noise that means 'leave me alone, I'm trying to snooze'.

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 11/06/2017 09:38

Sounds like excitement to me. My DH sleeps with his face under the duvet and when his hand goes up to remove it from his fave of a morning one of our dogs sounds like he is in agony but it's just excitement. DH is clearly very handsome to poodles. Grin He makes the same noise when we take the leads out of the drawer or take the food box out of the cupboard.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/06/2017 09:38

I call my dog's happy noise (esp when getting his first cuddle of the morning) 'gruntling'. It's onomatopoeic and clearly he's gruntled ie the opposite of disgruntled.

Asmoto · 11/06/2017 09:39

he's gruntled

Love that expression!

mylaptopismylapdog · 11/06/2017 09:50

With my dog this is a sign that he is pleased,(so excited !),to see you and he is most aggitated when it is someone he knows really well.
