To complain about kennels?

Sent our much loved furry friend to kennels for 2 nights over the weekend.. picked him up on Sunday and he was limping.

Fast forward to this morning and he's still limping/ not weight baring at all. I took him to the vet this morning and he has snapped his back claw, it has split and gone back on itself wedging itself into his pad, the vet had to pull it out along with a lot of puss!

We've got antibiotics but he wouldn't let her wash it out properly because it hurt too much so we're going back on Wednesday to see if he needs a general anaesthetic to was out his foot :(

Anyway I've rung the kennels and they're saying they didn't notice anything, would you complain?

Yes, and I wouldn't use them again either. The kennels I use groom the dogs every day (as well as everything else) so that things like this can be picked up. It sounds like your dog wasn't being checked over properly.

That's bad. He was limping when you picked him up and they didn't notice?

Yes, I'd complain, and if they have a facebook page or a website I'd leave a review on it about the situation.

I'd also want to know what they're going to do about your vet's fees, although, they'll probably argue that you can't proved it happened on their premises. Would the vet be able to give you any idea when the injury might have occurred from the condition of the paw when you saw the vet?

It sounds as though he could have caught it jumping up on the wire enclosure in the kennel, if that's how they're constructed? In which case, it's an accident but yes, they should have noticed. I wouldn't use them again but I wouldn't be looking for them to reimburse the vet's fee, to be honest. That's something that your pet insurance should cover; accidents do happen and it's not always neglect.

Oh I totally agree! I've had a chat with the kennels and they said that he was just so active every time they went in to see him they couldn't have noticed, and I can well believe it! He will have been so excited that he wouldn't have stayed still at all! Hopefully tomorrow he'll be better.

I'm seriously copping out and making DH take him in the morning! The kennels are paying half,
I've attached a little picture :)

My dog has had numerous issues with toe nails as he has SLO and he always needs an anaesthetic to sort them out , it can be done under sedation but our vet thinks anaesthetic is safer if they need a fair bit of time . Once the initial treatment is done he's ok for dressings , I reckon nail beds are really painful .

Hey have you posted again? You said in aibu that the vet said it had been at least 2-3 days which means it happenes before the dog went to the kennels.

Were the questions about why you hadnt noticed too uncomfortable?

pigsDOfly · 07/06/2017 00:02

Well that's a good result Pepper.

Great that the kennels have met you half way. Actually says a great deal about them as a responsible organisation.

Bless him, he looks a bit sorry for himself. Hope he gets better soon.
