So our greyhound is here - she's beautiful. I will try and get a photo at some point.

We all went down this morning to pick her but really she picked us. She seems very waggy and happy although obviously pacing round a lot. She's pooed and wee'd in the back garden which is great.

We'll see how tonight goes! Just trying to ignore her now (although the kids are finding it very difficult) as she sniffs around and settles in.

She came named Boo but the kids want to call her Petra - I'm a bit "meh" about Petra but whatever.

Wish us and her luck! Any tips very very gratefully received.

Wow beautiful pup, OP. They are such a wonderful breed and will bring you endless joy. Our neighbour has one and she is the most well behaved dog I have ever met. I would leave it for a couple of days before bathing her. Baths tend to stress out most dogs.

If she's happy to let you bath her then I'd go ahead , she sounds like she's settling in beautifully .

OP here - lost my log-in details and posting from phone. It can't be this easy surely? She's still being amazing. Has been completely quiet three nights in a row, no indoor toileting, affectionate, eating well. She loves her walks but looks a bit knackered - I wonder if we're doing too much? She's getting 45 mins morning and late pm and 30 mins at lunchtime. She's ok on the lead but still not safe with small dogs.

DH yesterday said "I'm glad we got her" which nearly made me weep as he was the one that was so reticent. We are all besotted already.

Anything else we should be aware of, look out for, be doing as she continues to settle in?

I'd say cut the walks back a bit until she builds up her stamina, other than that it sounds like a perfect match so well done you . When are you getting a second , quite rare to see one greyhound in a house .

That's a lot of walking for a greyhound, but ours have built up stamina to do the same (although we only made it to the pub and back this evening).

SO happy for you 😄

Great news she's settling so well. Are you walking her on concrete? Their feet can get sore so be careful if you are. How is she around cats/squirrels? Our pointy has great recall but if there is any small fury he is off so he can only be let off if he's in an entire space with his muzzle on.
I bathed ours very soon and he was fine. I think they like the fuss.

agree with others - that is a lot of walking for a greyhound (or lurcher).

I have often thought that they like a 'full blast' rather than long walks especially on hard pavements. Is it something to do with how their legs /paws are formed?
My lurcher struggles with just walking as he is now nearly 14 but can still bound through the long grass (briefly) when let loose in the field nearby. If she is reluctant and knackered, cut down the walks to maybe 20 mins morning and night. They are not like other dogs Grin
