Dog home from the vets. Pair of us crying...

He's had his anal glands removed, on the advise of two vets, in the hope it will stop his scooting etc.
Operation was Tuesday morning and I bought him home about 1 hour ago.

He's crying, wandering around and not settling. Sadly, the inflatable comfy collar that I bought for him isn't enough to stop him getting to his bottom so I've had to put the hideous plastic vase thing back on.

He settled for five minutes while I sat and stroked him but as soon as I got up (I'd not sat comfortably and my legs had gone to sleep) he's back wandering around and crying.

Any tips gratefully received. It's breaking my heart.

Yes I'd give tramadol if he's uncomfortable. Hope he's feeling better

mckenzie · 25/05/2017 13:43

The tramadol I think really helped.
He was restless from about 1-1.30am but then slept through to 6:45 when the household all wakes up.
I gave him another dose today (12 hours later) and will give another one tonight.
He seems better today in himself. He is much less restless, even though it's so hot he must be uncomfortable. He isn't even bothered by the collar it seems although I am still taking it off him when we are sitting still together and I can watch him fully.

Onwards and upwards I hope.
Thank you all for your support yesterday. It meant a lot to have you guys on hand for help and advice.

Glad he's feeling better

I spoke too soon. He's really agitated this evening.
Sad

Has he had all his tramadol for the day ? Is he generally a bit of a drama llama or is this unusual .

mckenzie · 25/05/2017 21:40

He's due a tramadol at 10pm. He had crashed on the sofa but has just stirred and gone outside.
Is he a drama queen? I don't think so.
Could it be the healing procsee has started and that's making it itchy?

If he's uncomfortable give him tramadol - it doesn't need to be exactly 12 hours as it has a large margin of safety
