My little rescue dog has turned into such a lovely girl. She's so sweet and funny and loving.

She's my first rescue dog and I wasn't sure how it would work out but it's been great. But I have made the mistake of liking the rescue charity we got her from and a few other rescues on FB. Now I keep seeing adorable little friends for ddog who would like to live in my house with us. I've seen 3 just now.

Aibu to want All of the rescue dogs to live in my house?

I adopted 2, and now I foster for the rescue and get to see them going off to their new homes. I've got a cuddly puppy with me right now!

Well you definitely have room for one more. Two dogs isn't that much harder than one.

I completely agree, OP.

We rescued an ex-puppy farm dog last year. She was timid, shy, nervous, mistrusting, had no idea how to play, had no idea what toys were, wasn't remotely house-trained, wouldn't eat food in front of anyone, was afraid to sleep in front of us. She didn't make a single noise (no barks, whines, growls or wimpers) for the first year.

Gradually she changed and she's now a completely different dog. Like, 100% different. She's currently sitting in the sun just low growling and whimpering at next door's cat which is sitting on the wall flicking its tail. My dog and this cat love playing together but will only do so when cat is ready.

I'm so proud of her and proud of me and DH. My heart swells with love every time I look at her. Whenever I read a story about animal cruelty, I find her and give her a big hug (which she usually hates!).

If I could do that for every rescue dog in the country, I think I'd actually die of happy Grin

We're in the process of adopting from abroad and can't wait for our new dog to arrive, not long to go now.

I'm struggling to find a rescue. After a small terrier type but they get rehomed before i can even phone up. And i can't drop everything to drive 3 hours to visit and reserve.

Really don't want to go down the puppy route but it is so so difficult with rescues.

I need the dog equivalent of phil and kirsty on the job!

MineralWater · 23/05/2017 13:22

really I rescued a small terrier. You're right, they do go quickly. It's interesting that you mentioned Kirsty and Phil because I'm about to make a property analogy...
You know when you buy a house and you get yourself known as a "hot buyer"? Well, you need to do the same with the rescues. Go along often, meet a couple of dogs, take them for walks, tell the centre you're desperate. This was how we ended up with our terrier- when they realised she'd need a quiet, loving, patient home they thought of us immediately.

It would be better if all owners were made to be responsible. Prepare for their new addition. Not impulse buy some cute pup that's completely unsuitable for their lifestyle. Train their dog. Neuter unless they intend to breed (and I would question why they want to breed?!) Exercise their dog and socialise it.
Sometimes people find their circumstances change and have no choice to give up their pet but I think that's actually not all that common. It's the irresponsible and impulsive idiots that are more of an issue. Angry

Wolfiefan I completely agree.
