For info, dog is 11 and other than usual westie skin issues that are managed, otherwise fit and healthy.
I got her when she was 4 as a rescue and compared to my JR (who likes to crawl up your nose at any given opportunity!) Is very reserved. She'll come for a fuss if she wants one but then will sit next to you, she follows me but not an attention seeker.
Last night I finished work late and had a bath when I got in, JR went and took advantage of the bed to herself as usual, and westie would usually lay in bathroom doorway. Last night however the westie was quite agitated, she kept pacing in and out the bathroom to bedroom and other dog and back to me, whining and just generally unsettled. I popped them out thinking she needed a wee and gave her the once over and found nothing unusual. Got back in bath and she started again. As soon as I got into bed she was all over me, which is unusual and snuggling in, I took the pic to show OH her unusual behavior and spotted the light in/over her eye.
First thought is a cataract, and she'll visit the vet but I've shown OH and a few others and some seem to think it's an 'orb' or simply a light anomaly on the camera, as it seems to be in front of her eye not in it.

MN doghouse-ers!
What do you think?! Seen anything like it before?
I'm ruling out or in cataract first with vets visit.
Can I just add this is a bit lighthearted, I already know I need to take her to the vets, and she's booked in, just interested if a wider audience sees what a couple of NY friends have!

It just looks like the flash hitting her eye, only she's moved slightly to me...

CornflakeHomunculus · 08/05/2017 14:11

Do you mean the green glow?

That's normal, it's eyeshine from the tapetum lucidum. It's basically just like red-eye in photos of humans but because dogs have an extra layer to improve their vision in low light it's a different colour.

Yes cornflake, I hadn't realised that, I guess because it's only one eye and not the whole eye I thought it wasn't the flash but that makes sense especially as tabu says, if she moved slightly as I took it.
Shall tell friends I don't have a haunted dog.... Ha and get her eyes checked anyway, prudent at her age.
Thanks Smile
