I told another dog owner that if his dog doesn't have a reliable recall then it should be trained in a quiet open field and to leash up when dogs are near especially on lead dogs.
And not to let it off lead in the woods because you cannot always see clearly all around.

His response was his dog needs a proper run and it can't get that in the local park without bumping in to another dog. (It's not the most friendly of dogs) and I'm beginning to get sick of his dog chasing / shoving mine and scaring him in the woods.

Does your dog have a good recall. If so I would recall it and put it on the lead and push his away with a walking stick and then walk on. You could also attach a lead to his and walk off to show him how stupid he is to ignore what his dog is up to Wink

My dogs recall is ok until dogs get close. I do recall and then on lead until other dog has passed but I still let mine off in the woods even though I can't see at all times because we walk in the forest Grin. Saying that I do walk in places where there are infrequent dogs deliberately.

So no you anbu but I have found you can say what you like to people like that but they won't change as they don't care that their dog runs up to yours uninvited and the only thing you can do is change your walking to avoid them.

Mine has good recall.
Would come if I tell him to avoid dogs and would stop play when I call.
But if he's being chased by an unfriendly dog that would shove and pin him before I had the chance to recall, (e.g. If the other dog just appeared behind the trees) he'd be running for his life and starts howling and he'd too scared to come back and he wants to hide somewhere til the other dog is gone.

I very much doubt then the other person is going to be more considerate because as long as their dog is ok they don't care. I would try and find another time or place to walk your dog.

I have walks near me but I tend to drive to others as they are less frequented by other people.
