There is something wrong with my dog

My pooch was absolutely fine when I got up, his normal self.

I went out early this morning, was only gone 10minutes but regardless of time my dogs still get super excited when we come home.

Only one of my dogs came to greet me. My other boy was crying at the back door. I knew something was wrong as he is the first one to the door to greet me.
I opened the back door thinking he needed a wee but he didn't. He was happy to see me but I knew instantly something was wrong he was shaking and crying.

He's 2 years old and we have had him 5 months.

I've been sat with him for a hour and he's gone to sleep now but something is a miss. He's baring low when he walks and keeps rearing up. I thought there was something wrong with his back legs but yet he has stood on his back legs to give me lick.

He's still trembling and he doesn't follow me around. He is my shadow.

He's not walking around much, he seemed unable to settle. He's had some food and his appetite isn't effected.

I can't get to the vets today, but I'm pretty worried.

Anyone know what this could likely be?

It does sound like he's in pain. Will he let you examine him? Touch his belly, his tail, paws etc?

Is it possible your dogs faught, playful or otherwise, and he got hurt?

Has he pee'd or poo'd today?

You should take him too the vet if you can't work out a reason for his behaviour :/

quckingduck22 · 29/04/2017 10:24

He's been out for a wee and a poo first thing.

Checked his feet and nothing obvious.

He backed up when I tried to pick him up under his belly, but then let me not long after.

He's not done anything this morning that could of injured him as both my dogs get up, go out for toilet, eat then sleep.

They have not been out on there walk yet and they are not rough and tumble towards each other. If I'm honest they ignore each other.

I've only had him 5 months so I may give the previous owner a call and see if he's had this before.

He was vet checked before I got him and they said he was very healthy dog. Bit underweight but since he came to us he has put on 2.5kg and his weight is spot on now.

No advice, just sympathy. It's so horrible to see them unwell. I hope he's better soon Flowers

Noitsnotteatimeyet · 29/04/2017 10:38

Why can't you get him to the vet? Could you at least call the vet and ask for advice over the phone?

Bluntness100 · 29/04/2017 10:40

I think he is in pain, and something could be twisted inside his tummy, I'd get to a vet. You can't leave him in pain, what breed is he?

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 29/04/2017 10:41

Ring the vet ASAP. It could be his stomach, and if he's eaten something he shouldn't, these things can move to life threatening very quickly.

From the way you're describing his movements and the suddenness of the onset, I'd want him checked out this morning tbh.

MrsJayy · 29/04/2017 10:44

Tbh i would take him to the vet today as its bank holiday monday (assuming you are in the uk) and you might need to get an emergency
call out appointment.

LouiseBrooks · 29/04/2017 10:50

Take him to the vet asap.

BastardGoDarkly · 29/04/2017 10:52

He needs to see a vet, something's wrong, and it could be serious, can you seriously not get him to one?

Frouby · 29/04/2017 11:06

He needs a vet. It could be something really serious. If you ring your own surgery amd it's closed there should be an answerphone service for the nearest alternative emergency practice.

Or big petshops sometimes have vet surgerys in them. I wouldn't normally use something like that as my dsis had an awful experience but it's better than leaving him in pain.

quckingduck22 · 29/04/2017 14:48

I managed to find out our vets is now closed until Tuesday The out of hours vet is 20 miles away.

Dog has perked right up since. I would say back to normal. He's eaten, slept, played with his toys and had a good sniff about the garden.

I've made contact with my DH and he's on hand at work if we need to do a emergency vets visit.

I will keep a very close eye on him, as I always do as he is my shadow. I can't even shower without him staring in through the glass. Bless him

I wonder if something really scared him while you were out? Is he a rescue?

quckingduck22 · 29/04/2017 15:00

Not a rescue no. Second hand dog tho.

He's very chilled out usually. Sleeps a lot.
We live quite rurally and get lots of wildlife in the garden and he's fascinated by that will sit and watch for ages.

Was too early for post.

The only thing that freaked him out in the last couple of weeks was gun shots that sounded very close. BUT I walked 5 minutes away and would of heard that from where I was.

It's totally bazaar. He's not eaten anything different or scrounged something he shouldn't as he is a nightmare for food so we religiously keep all food away from him and pack it away immediately when we get it delivered.

Regardless I will take him to vets, either emergency or will wait until our vets opens on Tuesday.

We had a dog that was distressed by strange noises, he would behave very oddly if something had frightened him. Could something have fallen over in your house and made a bang? Just a thought.

JJmom16 · 05/05/2017 14:41

Not a Staffie is he ?? My dog always shakes when he's scared.

Norland · 07/05/2017 09:49

Did you ever find out OP? One of my dogs gets like this when there's a threat of a thunderstorm in the air.
