Has anyone had a puppy with hip dysplasia?

We have a 10 week old Labrador puppy who is starting to show signs of hip dysplasia. We had her checked over at 8.5 weeks when she went for her jabs as I had an early concern about it. Vet said all fine.

However when she gets up, she sits first then stands and she bunny hops a lot.

She is going back to the vet on Monday for her second set of jabs. I will raise my concerns.

I was naive, I did ask about hip scores and didn't really get an answer, I had my concerns before we picked her up, I was convinced then by DH that it was just a puppy growing fast and unable to keep up with her legs.

We have had a shit few months, our old lab was put to sleep only 3 weeks ago with a brain tumour. I was desperate for a dog to fill the void.

Thank you for your comments.

We are still confused. Our vet took X-rays and said she thought there was a problem with the left hip. She then said that she was going to send the X-rays to an orthopaedic surgeon who said that they appeared normal and that it there was a problem it wouldn't show yet.

So we are still not quite sure what to do.

She is definitely less stable on her left hind leg.

She has one week before we can walk her, but when we can hopefully short walks will help strengthen her legs.

We have decided to keep her, which may end up being a mistake. But we are very caring dog owners and can give her the best life possible.

We have wooden flooring in our lounge which is slippery which won't help. So large rugs have been ordered. We are just hoping the toilet training improves!!

Cornflake - I get what you're saying however if the OP decided to take the puppy back, do you really think it's gunna stop these sort of breeders? No. They'll either just sell it on for cheap to whoever else wants it, dump it, or take it to a shelter.

Don't get me wrong I despise those sort of breeders and would never recommend using them (obviously!). However if I accidentally used one without realising, I would never return a puppy.

They're in it for the money remember. They couldn't give a shit about the puppies. No amount of returned sick puppies will stop their horrible "business". The only thing that will stop them is jail.

just wanted to add a note of encouragement
regarding hip dysplasia six weeks
I had a pyrennesspup who was lame and tested for sore hips
vet said he needed surgeries on both when 10 months old
I started feeding a frozen but raw chicken leg everyday
After 6 weeks he was not lame anymore in hind end
at age nine i could run him alongside my car
he ate raw chicken and grainfree lamb turkey or salmon
and many raw fruits and veggies
it is my feeling that in his case it was a nutritional lack even though feeding a quality kibble
nature;s duet wiykd have been raw............
