I held my dog in my arms on Saturday morning when he was put to sleep...he was part of the family and we had him nearly 10 yrs..I'm not a soppy type of person...but this has hit me badly..the rest of the family are carrying on with their lives, but I feel this massive ache inside ,and everywhere I look I see dogs.ive burst in to tears 6 times today..nothing feels right in the house.im shocked at how badly I'm taking this..when does it stop

Sorry for your loss Vegansnake, it will get easier in time, it is the same as grieving for a loved one.

I lost my first dog 9 years ago and I was distraught, had a week off work. I got another just 2 months after, and she filled the massive hole that was left, but didn't replace my lovely girl. She was put to sleep this morningSad

From my experience the 1st week is the absolute worst - I sobbed every day - so be kind to yourself - it is what it is and very hard because it's the 1st time you everything normal without your beloved hound.

You will gradually get used to life without Ddog in time but it isn't easy and I can't promise you'll ever get over it completely - but time does mean that life goes on.

We lost our Ddog at the beginning of Jan last year and I still miss him every. single. day.

The 1st anniversary hit me hard again, so be prepared for that.

No real tips I'm afraid, you need to take every day as it comes - just know that you gave your Dog a great life and absolutely did the right thing at the end.

One thing I would suggest - go on a memorial walk where you would normally have walked - I found it emotional but cathartic.

Hope this helps.
