Hi all

Will be bringing home a Springer Spaniel pup (8 weeks old) on 31st Jan, and I'm bricking it! I don't have kids but honestly feel as if I'm going to be bringing my first child home and don't want to f*ck the poor thing up.
Can anyone tell me if I've missed anything with my prep:

puppy-proof area that is fenced off from the rest of the house by a dog gate
lino floor in case of accidents
crate with blanket
same food as breeder has been feeding
treats for training
kong
chew toy for teething
lead
collar
harness for travelling in the car
clicker for training
whistle
puppy handbook by that woman who wrote total recall
nervous heart palpitations
obsessive youtube tutorial watching
looked into puppy training classes in my area
booked in for health check and 2nd vaccs at local vets
breathe

Anything else?? Any tips?

Soak a tea towel, roll it up and twist it then put it in the freezer. This will be the BEST teething toy your pup could ever want.

Make sure all charger wires are out of range, puppies seem to zero in on cables when they're little!

Trionic - that's interesting about the nail clipping as we are supposed to get free nail clipping with our. Vets care plan but every time we have asked they tell us his nails are on and don't need clipping, that it can be bad to cut them if they don't really need it. He's now 7 months and not had them clipped. I'll ask again when we go for the next flea/tic treatment.

Ladyface - what about a soft toy such as a Kong teddy filled with rope so there is no stuffing to come out.

You may also want to research what type of food you want to feed your puppy on (ie good quality at decent price) as the food your breeder is using may not be the best. You then change over gradually.

We have a fabric car carrier for our puppy which is strapped onto the back seat but can be carried in and out. I find this useful if I am transporting alone (if DS is with me he sits on D'S lap with the harness clip).

The best food you could ever feed any dog including your puppy is a raw diet!!!

Please please please research it.

I'm picking my pup up tomorrow so this thread has been great.

I also dropped off a blanket, that I'd slept on so it had my scent, to the breeder which has been in the puppies bed, it'll come home with my pup and go in his bed so it smells familiar.
