Puppy has a lot of blood and mucus in stool

11 week old puppy.

Took him to the vets for 1st injection 2 weeks ago. The morning of injection he had some mucus and blood in his poo. Spoke to the vet and as he came from mother home being fed pedigree and I had introduced a small amount of wainwrights in order to change food (about 4 biscuits) the vet told me to stop and leave it for another couple of weeks before introducing the food. I still have him on pedigree as his stools still seem loose to me.

Today he has had a large amount of runny poo with mucus and blood. He has been wormed and is otherwise well in himself.

I have considered that it could be the pedigree food actually doing this but has anyone got experience?

Vets open in a bit but they did not seem too concerned last time but I am going out of my mind!

No ideas about what it is because it could be lots of stuff...but don't panic, blood and mucus just means something is irritated.

So yes, get a vet's appointment, but it's not likely to be anything worth sitting and worrying over.

Same happened with my kitten this weekend. Vet said unless it's happening both ends its most likely to be an irritant that she's eaten. Also a bit constipated so had strained to poo. A couple of sardines in oil sorted her out.

Call the vet if you're worried but I'd leave it another couple of poos.

Could be colitis. Give him just plain boiled rice with a bit of boiled chicken, no skin. If you have an Aldi they do bags of frozen skinless chicken in small pieces that you can boil up pretty quick, under £2.
One of mine has IBD & she has it to tempt her with her kibble she's not thrilled with.

Get a tube of Pro-Kolin or Promax, much cheaper from the vet supplies online than from the vet. It really helps.

Puppies poos come in all shapes and forms and colours!
However runniness should be brief! Amd because puppies dehydrate super quick its important to get it checked if not clearing straight away. Your puppies gut is clearly aggravated for whatever reason. So slow boil chicken carcasses amnd give the cooled juice to pup and you can add bits off chicken and rice but just the juice first to make sure pup hydrated enough.

What is the breeder saying about this? Dpup should not be bleeding for two weeks especially as theres 'a lot' as you say. I would worry and make urgent appt.

Sound like colitis. Also try mashed plain potato and boiled white fish.

Shriek · 07/12/2016 22:51

Shouldnt feed potatos to ddogs. Or fish when poorly guts

Works every time for mine. I'd like to see where you got that info from out of interest.

Thank you everyone. I limited his food through the day yesterday and then did him some boiled chicken and rice for dinner,

I let him out for the toilet and caught him trying to eat berries that had flown off of next doors tree so I wonder if one sneeked past me and caused an aggravation.

he seems happy enough today and vet wasn't overly worried.

Glad your boy is feeling better

Good coincidence to have seen that! I know another similar situation where ddog was eating windfall plums. Ddog would go through periods of vomitting what looked likr diarrhoea! Tree been chopped down.

Would be worried about a vet thats not concerned about a puppy losing 'lots of blood' thats really shocking. Pups can fail very quickly.
