Rescue dogs first Christmas. How is yours coping with the tree etc?

Rescue Ddog pulled from the streets into the pound and then we have her. Possibly 5 yrs old with no living in a home skills.

Tree went up today, she has moved from her living room spot into the kitchen dog bed, now venturing in for a look then leaving again.

How is your rescue dogs first Christmas going?

She seems oblivious to be honest, she's a very laid back dog though to be fair. As long as the tree isn't in her bed, stopping her from snoring her head off, she won't care at all.
I'm so excited to buy her a Christmas stocking Grin

It's just something new in her living room: a new sight and, if it's a real tree, it will have a strong smell to her.
I expect she'll get used to it, especially as she's brave enough to keep coming having a look.
Hope she has a lovely Christmas in her new home.

The tree doesn't seem to bother her any longer but having the heating on is driving her mad with scratching. I'm assuming this is normal because she is used to living outside?

Could be her general change in circumstances are making her itch but it could be her food? Have a look and see how much % of grain is in her food. Dogs can be allergic to it.

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 06/12/2016 17:34

Thanks bagel just checked nod her food is 100% grain free so I can tick that off the list.

Took her for a walk this evening and outside Christmas lights freak her out, poor thing has a long way to go just yet!

Scratching's usually either fleas or a problem with the food (usually cheaper foods such as chappie, bakers, pedigree ect but even royal canin cause allergies as it contains grain) but it sounds like the heating could be causing dry skin especially if your dog isn't used to it, you can try giving a oil (coconut or fish!) supplement or looking for special shampoos.

I'm going to have a chat with the lady that grooms her for me. I've had a good look and don't believe it's fleas. I'm a magnet for fleas and gnats so I assume I would be bitten by now if it were fleas.

She is moulting like mad, wire haired mix medium breed, the heating has only been on a month or so and her favourite spot was behind the sofa next to the radiator so I've blocked that off and she is much more settled this evening.

I've massively derailed my own thread haven't I Grin thanks for helping though Flowers

Our DDog is a rescue and has been with us since September. She has done remarkably well with the tree, tried to nibble a bauble but otherwise hugely unimpressed. :)
