Moments that make you proud of your dog

Yesterday we went to the park and a 6 month old pup ran up to my dog to play. As the owner was calling the dog I stopped walking so I didn't make the pup follow my dog further away from its owner.

When it became obvious that the pup was utterly ignoring its owner I made my dog sit at my feet in the hope that the pup would then do as it was told. It didn't (I had to catch the pup and put it on my lead in the end) but my dog sat there almost perfectly!

I am so so proud of her. It is hard to stay in a sit when it would be more fun to play but she did it!

Oh well done, that is good. I was saying on another thread what a joy a well trained dog is.

It's funny how proud we feel when they show off their beautiful behaviour. Sometimes when a dog behaves badly around my dog and she doesn't react and I praise her, I'm sure she looks all pleased with herself in a, 'yes, I know how a good dog should behave' sort of way, but it's probably just my imagination :)

My dog breaks up fights between my cats and then gives them all a lick. A very careing beast.
He is also a great listener!

I think its to counteract the feelings of utter embarrassment and shame when they do something bad!

My dog is also a great listener Houseworkavoider but she is terrified of cats!

Oh yes, Deadnettle when she suddenly decides to scream and bark at some poor innocent dog that a dog she's walked past for several months without so much as a glance, that pretty embarrassing.

Deadnettle · 30/11/2016 18:18

My dog can scream too pigsDOfly usually when Dh or I go into a shop without her (the other person stays with her), thats very embarrassing.

Generally though this dog makes me proud. She was just so well behaved. If you had asked me beforehand if she could have stayed in a sit stay for several minutes in the park when a puppy was running around wanting to play, I would have said no. She really suprised me.

Ddog has 0 recall so is on the lead at all times.
He spotted a squirrel in the woods and shot off at full pelt - if I'm prepared I can plant my feet and just about hold him but I was distracted and I did a full on comedy dive onto my hands and knees before rolling onto my side.
Obviously I let go of the lead but instead of legging it like usual ddog actually came back to see if I was ok!!
Small victory I know but even so
(I'm actually quite bruised if anyone cares by the way)
