Studding out our dog

user1474439326 · 12/11/2016 20:27

Does anyone have any experience of this?
We have a Hungarian vizsla and are just contemplating wether we might like to stud him out, he's such a lovely dog and comes from a good pedigree.
Just looking for advice on processes and any problems encountered.

Thanks

Ugh to the ''let them have one litter'' It is stupidity, ignorance and greed. I despise these people.

Wolfiefan · 13/11/2016 15:04

Let them have one litter. Why? It's not as if the dog is yearning for babies. I don't get it.
We are hoping to get a dog soon. It will be a pet. We most certainly won't be breeding.

Just to mention again. If you bought a true to type pedigree from a reputable breeder you will have already been advised that your ddog is endosed against progeny and export so you never be able to produce further pedigree ddogs. If you try to register them under the sire's name you will not be able to.
But more important the risks and dangers.
I hope you feel you have got tje right information now to decide against stud and just enjoy your lovely boy.
Whats the KC name and could tell you if its endorsed for progeny

I fully agree with BeBopTalulah. Our boy has quite a pedigree. Not only is he endorsed not for breeding, we have contracted with the breeder that we will not breed him.

If you want to stud out your dog, have a word with his breeder if you should show him= advertising. Look into the health testing that needs to be done. And remember, even a stud dog has a sell by date... around 6years.

If you are ok with all of this, be prepared for the hard work. Having girls on heat at your house, your dog marking everything- including your furniture! He may become more aggressive towards other dogs and will definitely have a little personality change. In the dog world, only "the alfa" is allowed to mate.

If you are prepared to do all this and your dog is a good, healthy example of the breed, go for it!

Whip his balls off. It's not worth the hassle.
