Horrific attack on my dog

TheCrumpledToe · 02/11/2016 12:46

My DM was walking my pug for me on Monday when he was attacked by 2 bigger dogs that were off the lead. They literally tried to rip him in half and he is still at the vets now recovering from his injuries.
There were quite a few witnesses as my DM was shouting and screaming and eventually the attacking dogs were pulled off and I believe they bit their owner while he was trying to help.
The police were contacted by one of the witnesses and my DM but when they contacted me they said they couldn't do anything as a crime hadn't been committed.

Is there anything I can do? These dogs are well known where I live for being aggressive and I have no idea why they weren't on leads.

Police may be more interested if you focus on whether the dogs snapped at you during the attack and/or you were in a state of fear of being bitten by them yourself. They won't be that interested in the dog on dog fight.

Thats so sad felt like crying looking at your beautiful little pug in such a state. Keep full report from vet and all photos and push police for action.
I think police all act differently and push things down their lists but keep pushing for action. Esp some unitial contact with owner to accept full liable (already paying so admitting liability) and drastic action against dogs banning from park at very least. Definitely muzzling. They are a fucking menace and noone should have to be worrying about tjw safety of their own ddogs when going to local park. What about small children?!? How to know if they might gang up on too!

Oh my god that little face. Sad

You need to put it all over your local social media. Word like that soon gets around and the owner may suddenly decide that he ought to muzzle his dogs and keep them on a lead.

I hope he's soon feeling better.

Crumblevision · 05/11/2016 23:57

Aw your poor sad pooch. Give him a gentle cuddle from me and Crumbledog. I could cry for him, poor little guy

TheCrumpledToe · 06/11/2016 12:53

I did take him for a little walk today wearing a T shirt instead of his harness so it didn't hurt all his injuries and he seemed happy to be outside. He is still so sad though. I don't know how to cheer him up and it's heartbreaking.

Lots of cuddles and treats? Which I'm sure you're already doing. Maybe try and keep him busy going to a few different places.

It might just take time.

My dog got jumped on by some boisterous labs and she wasn't even hurt. But was terrified and was properly screaming. It took six months for her to stop panicking every time she saw a dog out on walks. She would literally run as fast as she could in the opposite direction. So was very shook up and that was without injuries.

honeyroar · 09/11/2016 11:29

Hope he's doing a bit better. It will take time. He will be both sore and shaken up. Poor little mite. Keep fussing him and just doing little walks in quiet areas where he might not meet many other dogs.

I wonder if taking him to some training classes later, where he will meet other dogs in a controlled environment would help him gain confidence? If you live in the North west I could suggest a dog country park that holds classes and socialisation sessions, again under controlled circumstances.

Out of interest, have you had any contact from the other dog's owners? If my dog had done that I'd be round at yours ASAP to see how your dog was and really upset.

Hi. I've exchanged a few texts with the owner and he has apologised and he did turn up at the vets to pay the bill (£370) so far and said he will pay further bills when I get them.

He does seem to perk up when we go for gentle walks but when at home he just lies quietly. At then moment he is under my daughters bed refusing to come out. I have some pet remedy stuff which I will try and if he isn't any better when his stitches come out next Monday I'm hoping the vet might have some ideas.
It's so horrible to see him still so sad 😭

He's probably in a bit of pain and very uncomfortable. Poor little lad.

Shriek · 11/11/2016 18:27

Sending gentle healing hugs of happiness to mr crumpledtoe pug. So sorry you are still feeling down. This will pass and in the meantime just dream of all the wonderful times to come like you used to have before.

Its ok to take your time to lick your wounds and get your strength amd spirit back!!

We are all rooting for you! Get well soon little buddy x

I would escalate the complaint with the police. I don't want to sound overly dramatic, but what if those dogs attack a child? I would take names and be quite clear that there needs to be a risk assessment and 'when' something else happens you'll be making a song and dance the like of which they will never have seen before. Out of control dogs are dangerous.

Your poor little dog. I hope he improves.

Shriek · 11/11/2016 23:05

Agreeing. This dog/owner needs dealing with definitely to avert the next attack!
