We had a seemingly fit, healthy and bouncy 3 year old black lab.
Yesterday came downstairs to a dog virtually dragging her back legs behind her. No obvious physical trauma that could have happened during the night, apart from vomit next to her bed.
Got an emergency appt at our local vet who gave her a thorough check and said she had virtually no nerve response or feeling on her back legs.
Sent straight across to specialist clinic to be be seen by a neurologist who conducted an emergency MRI.
The diagnosis appears to be a fibrocatilaginous embolism (stroke), which we have no idea could have happened. Fortunately (or maybe not) surgery is not an option. She now needs to spend at least 5 days at the clinic with specialist physio and care to see if she regains strength.
Think I'm still in shock, This came totally out of the blue - no previous health problems or hip dysplasia. I have no idea what the prognosis is and am scared for her.
We have £4K in insurance so trying not to think of the cost at the moment - just hoping she makes a recovery.
Has anyone else come across this? Am hoping for some positive stories.
