ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 31/10/2016 23:11

Still got going off.
Shouldn't Diwali be over by now?

OP posts:
Lorelei76 · 31/10/2016 23:38

Yes Diwali is over
I am surprised that there's so many going off on a Monday night.

But I suppose when you factor in residential fireworks, people buy loads of them and just choose whatever night suits. It sounds like some people just buy a ton and have shows in the garden every night. Last year I remember them going on well after Nov 5th.

PetraStrorm · 04/11/2016 11:00

Yep, Thundershirt on, I've dug out the Adaptil diffuser from when we first got her from rescue, and I'm on lockdown after dark - can't/won't leave the house. So far she's better than last year, but we haven't hit peak firework yet.

I bloody love fireworks, I think they're beautiful. I even like the bangs, but at the same time I bloody hate them because of the stress they cause.

hennipenni · 04/11/2016 11:29

Diazepam prescribed by the vet for one of ours, she absolutely hates them but rather than hide she paces, barks, pants, whines and tries to escape from the house.

MalbecAndLindt · 04/11/2016 11:42

Another one who hates fireworks for this very reason. Our last dog was absolutely petrified and tried to hide. Current dog just goes mental and barks relentlessly. We've tried to close the curtains and drown them out with TV, etc, tablets from the vet, but it's no use. She just goes ballistic and jumps at the glass door to let her out. She literally runs around the garden in all directions just barking and barking. Last year, she lost her voice and her paws bled from it all :(

Personally think general sale of fireworks should be banned and should be restricted to organised displays on Nov 5th and NYE.

idontlikealdi · 04/11/2016 11:48

I dreading this weekend. Thundershirt, adaptil, exposure CDs / DVDs, some herbal thing from the vet all do fuck all for my dog.

He's terrified but unlike previous dogs who used to tremble and hide he works himself up into a frenzy pacing, panting and barks non stop. It's hellish.

Vet won't tranquilise - her theory is that you should never tranquilise a healthy animal. He's 6 now and it gets worse each year.

Fucking fireworks.

idontlikealdi · 04/11/2016 11:49

Oh henni I've just seen your post. I may have to go to a different vet. Does the diazepam work?

hennipenni · 04/11/2016 12:39

Idontlike, it worked to a certain degree as in it was only the directly overhead ones that she reacted to, but she was happy to stay in her covered crate with the radio in very loud where as previously she would have damaged herself trying to get out. We did find afterwards that she didn't have the full dose as we found a couple of tablets the next morning under her bedding!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 04/11/2016 12:42

Agreed. Phoebe is fine with the few organised diplays as they are far enough away. She doesn't like it when close by houses are letting them off though Sad. Only 2 month's 'til they're all over.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 04/11/2016 13:15

*displays

idontlikealdi · 04/11/2016 13:30

Thanks henni, may have to go and have yet another chat with the vet. Ddog goes in his crate but tries to escape.

ApplesTheHare · 04/11/2016 21:02

I am so fed up with fireworks too. It's like a war zone here! It's a shame really because Dd would love to go to a display but I don't dare leave the animals.

The good news is that we've finally tried a Thundershirt on poor Ddog and it's actually working! Usually he'd be hyperventilating and pacing like mad by this point but he's happily lying on the sofa being very brave. We've previously tried all sorts to no avail but the Thundershirt seems to be great. He even gets excited when we put it on Grin

Scrappysmammy · 04/11/2016 21:04

My poor Scrappy is in her thunder jacket under the bed, panting! Wish they'd piss off with their sporadic bangers!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 04/11/2016 21:08

It's quiet here.

The buggers must be saving the bastarding things for tomorrow.
Must look up the forecast. Praying for heavy rain.

OP posts:
Scrappysmammy · 04/11/2016 21:11

I've prayed for rain all day, pissed down until 5.30pm!

They should donate their firework money to charity, they'd feel better about themselves!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 04/11/2016 21:14

You are missing the point, Scrappy.
It's willly wanging, my firework's bigger than yours thing.
Charity won't get your neighbours jealous.

OP posts:
Scrappysmammy · 04/11/2016 21:17

Never thought of that Chardonnay, how silly of me!

Scrappysmammy · 05/11/2016 20:36

Me and DP have had to take Scrappy out in the car to read because she got herself in that much of a state! Sad

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 05/11/2016 20:38

My boy just calmed down a bit a some fucker fired some across the road.

OP posts:
Scrappysmammy · 05/11/2016 21:01

That's meant to say to settle her, not to read

Shriek · 05/11/2016 22:59

What hell for ddogs in such a state. So distrrssimg to watch and helpless.

Who has had successes with overcoming this and how?

I have always tackled it head on and never had a prob as they just get ignored or the really loud bangs does make one of the cats look a bit alarmed but not enough to move!

There must be something out there with a high degree of success . There are often posters here who speak of getting results in other areas and this sounds such a trauma for so many it needs to be managed somehow . Even if it is down to diazepam in the end!
