Which breed of puppy for pensioner?

Please no judgments as I have made them all! Need help choosing a breed of puppy for my mum please. She is indecisive and liable to be a victim for any puppy seller with a sob story unless I direct her to the right breed. If left to her own devices, she will choose with her heart, not her head. Rescue dogs are out so that is not up for debate.

She is an experienced dog owner. She is up for two 30-min walks a day. She doesn't want a dog that needs frequent trips to the dog groomer. It will need to be a small or medium sized dog. A tendency to be good with small children is essential.

She is considering: miniature dachshund, miniature schnauzer, beagle, bedlington terrier.

Any other suggestions, please?

My vet advised me not to get a dog I could not pick up in an emerency, good advice. Minature dachs are quite needy and jealous, a nightmare to stop jumping up which is bad for their backs, many then need operations and must be carried up or down stairs. I have a Bedlington, needs clipping regularly, every 2 months, they have hairy ears and feet which my boy hates having groomed. He is 14 and does get grumpy when being groomed. They are terriers and know their own minds. He is not a scrapper but he will stare down Rotties, Ridgebacks etc and tell them to go away. I also have a Bedlington whippet 1st cross who does not need clipping, has a hound's gentleness and has so far had the cross breed sturdy constitution, she is 10. Border terriers are cheerful little dogs and not too yappy.
A puppy is a lot of work, and should go to training etc. especially if they are mixing with grandchildren. I understand about rescue but have you considered breed rescue? There could be a waiting list but the rescue will know the breed. I would also look at Greyhound rescue as they often have whippets and small lurchers and are reputable.
