Won't eat, what can we give him

My parents wonderful dog is very poorly with thyroid cancer (removed and no signs it spread) and possible pancreatitis and prostrate problems. Hes on various medicines which don't seem to do anything. He's starving himself to death as he just won't eat and is sick when he does. He's going in for more surgery this week at vets firm recommendation to explore his pancreas however he's becoming skin and bone, doesn't want to go for walks and is clearly feeling lousy. We've tried everything we can think of to encourage him to eat and are more than desperate now. Sorry it this is a little rambling, it isn't a good time for us. Any suggestions please?

When the mutt won't eat we give her pasta, tuna, rice or chicken (in any combination)

A friends dog stopped eating after a particularly bad D&V episode and she was able to tempt it back to food with mashed potatoes - slowly introducing other textures to it.

Sometimes dogs will eat if you hand feed - start with just a very little and leave it to see if it comes back up.

Or if all else fails I would go with sloppy foods like milky porridge or yoghurts (as long as dog isn't lactose intolerant).

Our boy likes Dog Milk (lactose-free, goats' milk).
We buy it in Asda; it's in small, blue cartons near the Bonio biscuits.
If your dog likes it, it could be a bit of extra nourishment to help keep his strength up while he's off his food.

When our dogs have been sick we give them chicken or tuna with pasta or rice. It's very plain and easy on the stomach.

Whirlers dog treats seem to be irresistible.
They smell like strong smoky bacon crisps(also in Asda).

Tinned Sardines, dogs love them and they are cheap as chips. Try just giving him a sardine on its own, if he eats it then mix more in with his usual food. My dogs love anything that stinks. Grin

Thank you for the suggestions. He's refusing fish (inc tuna) and we've tried everything else suggested apart from cheese which he can't have because of the pancreas problem. It's been days since he's eaten and he's now pretty much stopped drinking. Waiting for a call back from the vets but think this might be it. Difficult to know how much is enough. Lots of heart breaking today in this house.

Oh love I am sorry. The vet could probably sedate and drip feed him - but you will know if this is the right thing for your pup. Sometimes we have to do the unthinkable to make everything right.

Scrambled eggs.

Our dog had 3 major surgeries over her 20 years. Always recovered on eggs!

Or yes, scrambled egg. Just beat them up in a bowl and put them in the microwave. Don't add butter - if he is feeling sick it will be too rich for him.

Our dog had scrambled egg after surgery as it's easy to digest we had to suffer his terrible wind though

We had tried scrambled eggs but he's stopped eating them. Last ate a few chipolatas yesterday morning and nothing since. Vet says he can op on the pancreas tomorrow if we want him to but it's a real long shot and chances are he'll be pts on the table. Have included a photo of the wonder boy

Turns out he had an inoperable tumour in his stomach, so it's this morning.
