I've had enough! Puppy and diarrhoea

Cassie is 16 wks old and now and keeps having diarrhoea. She's been on chicken and rice that long. Every time we 'wean' her back onto her normal diet (raw meat patties) it starts again. We've just gone down to a ton of diarrhoea. Again. The smell :( With 4 children, working from home, etc, at the moment i just feel like i can't be doing with it!

On a related note, generally, house training is going ok though she will chose to wee on a mat and not go in garden which it's getting to me.

What in the meat patties ? It could be the meat in them or what they use to mould so gluten

Maybe the raw food diet just doesn't agree with her. Have you taken her to the vet to get heir opinion?

Sounds like the food isn't suiting her

She went to the vet (twice) when it first started and she had antibiotics.

Our pup is on skinners hypoallergenic. Same problem, fixed within a week. It seems she is gluten intolerant as bread sets it off

Ideally you should start with just one type of meat to check for reactions

The allaboutdogfood website is brilliant, but dog food is a horses for courses thing and this food clearly does not suit your dog. There are lots of other goods that get high ratings and the fact that she is okay on chicken means I would consider a chicken or poultry based diet.

Someone I know had this problem with raw feeding. The liver and other organ meats can cause bad diarrhoea.
She was advised no liver etc till the pup had had firm stools for a few weeks and just one meat type for a week or so before introducing another.

My dog took months to get right. And she was fussy too. I initially statred with proplan sensitive and she has now upgraded to Orijen, which is rated as the top dry dog food on the market because of its meat and fish content. I know they do one for puppies, it isnt cheap but the best by far.

I think it's trial and error to be honest. My boy 15 months old and I have only just got his food right. It's taken so long because I wanted him on dry food but they all gave him the runs. He's fine now and on wet food. I tried it as a last resort. He's gone from 6-7 runny poos a day to about 2 normal ones. He can't tolerate turkey food though at all so I avoid that. Good luck.

My boy has Millie's dry food which is also top rated on All About Dog Food but the turkey flavour goes right through him. You just have to find one that suits your dog.

What food was she on when you got her? We feed Salters , it's quite expensive but you don't need a lot and we have never had problems

Another vote here for burns sensitive. My vet also recommended mixing a bit of chappie in -I was a bit appalled, but the recipe is stable and apparently suitable for delicate tums. So I feed a mix of both.

Having an elderly dog who doesn't always make it outside means that diaorroeha is my number one fear. Have had no more problems since starting them on this six months ago.

I've also been prescribed a brown paste (canikur) to help re grow the gut bacteria . That too seems to work wonders.

I'm another vote for Skinners if budget is a concern. If it's not then experiment.
I would look for one free from wheat and maize. But also look at excluding beef and pork as they affect some dogs.

My pup has just turned one, we thought he was a fussy eater, feed him Lili's Puppy Food, which is also one of the best but he turned his nose up. Vet couldn't understand why but since January he has had runny poos, so after lots of different pills and potions, and plain boiled chicken and rice (although he wouldn't touch the rice) the vet they tested for giardia which came back positive. This has now cleared up but he is still having tests for other gut issues, so I too feel your pain. I am so pleased I took out insurance! I love him dearly and just want him to be well and for me to be able to pick up a nice solid poo!
