hi im sadly im having to rehome my dog i really dont want to. but i will be going into some sort of temporary accommodation. im really worried because hes a staff and hes 12 years old. im thinking if i get a dog rescue type of place they might put him down because of his age and breed. but if i rehome him with people he might get used as a bateing dog or something. any suggestions would be great thank you

Oldies Club will help regime or foster older dogs.

Mental health issues? Hmm

TheoriginalLEM · 24/07/2016 12:21

why Hmm

I'm not sure why you want to stay away from Battersea - they never put a healthy dog down and have a great track record at rejoining older staffs. I think they would be a great bet.

oh maybe in getting mixed up with rspca. i saw somthing about putting dogs down because of age/breed.

theo why what?

That's the RSPCA - they are horrific, definitely avoid them but Battersea are lovely and strictly no-kill so your dog would be in safe hands. They never, ever put a healthy animal down, regardless of its age.

Oh and by rejoining I meant rehoming!

ghostspirit · 24/07/2016 12:58

ah ok . will look into battersea to then. i have already contacted the senior staffy one. waiting for reply probably have to wait till Monday. i will contact all of them from here actually then hopefully i will get somewhere... i am better to do that then to give him to someone arnt i? theres alot of baiting round here.

DO NOT give him to anyone directly - please regime through a reputable charity.

ghostspirit · 24/07/2016 13:10

Have heard Celia Hammond are good for cats round here. All the best OP, sounds like a tough situation

ghostspirit · 24/07/2016 19:49

Definitely look for a local centre rather than doing it yourself. Honestly.

I rehomed an awesome dog privately but looking back I wonder what was the owner thinking?

I could have been anyone!

Whitney168 · 25/07/2016 13:51

I am going to make a very unpopular suggestion here, but hey ho.

Your dog is 12. Has he always been with you? Has he ever lived in kennels?

There are young Staffies and their crosses spilling out of every dog shelter across the land, and many more being turned away for lack of room.

You could do far worse by your dog than take him to your own vet and cuddling him while he goes to sleep. It is not a nice choice, it will break your heart - but it may very well be the best thing for HIM, rather than perhaps spending the rest of his life confused and being passed over in kennels (if you can even find anyone to take him).

i know what your saying but i dont even want to think like that.
