Dog after pts previous for behaviour

Some weeks ago we had to pts our beautiful young dog for constant biting of family members including myself. I absolutely adored him nonetheless, believe it or not. I'm still grieving him. Although I knew it was the right thing to do. I still have a dog shaped hole in my life and would one day hope to have another dog.

Has anyone else experience of this? How did it go?

Mankymonkey, are you still on good terms with either of the APBC members you saw? Please remember their technical title is "pet behaviour counsellor"; I am quite sure either would be happy to help you reach a decision regarding a potential new pooch! Please feel free to pm me if you wish. Good luck xx

bobbybearmommg experience is where I got the snappy poodle thing from. Nearly every dog that came into rescue with poodle in them was.....interesting. I did say that not every poodle is snappy but they can be as a small dog (especially toy size) because of their behaviour pattern.

The breeds who are less likely to have separation anxiety are the ones who had jobs that needed them to work independently, so largely the terrier group.

I have a mini Schnauzer who has no separation anxiety and is very much a terrier. Obviously not all Schnauzers are like that. Her independent streak and confidence mean she can be stubborn, only now at 10 is her recall approaching reliable! But she is sweet as a nut, adores everyone and firmly believes that feeling will be reciprocated. She's bright as a button, picks things up fast but is easily bored and there always has to be something in it for her.

Sadly, as you know, they're are no guarantees, but I'm sure your next dog will be fine. SadFlowers

No dog is guaranteed.

Even a rescue.

My jrt when I got him was sweet as can be. Quiet, calm and just wanted to cuddle all the time. Within a week he had his feet firmly under the door and turned into the little sod I knew Grin

You would be better off with an adult than a pup though.

They are slightly more predictable and if they do go a bit nutty, it's easier to train them back as they are more focused
