Helping a friend so they can all go away for a break.

Omg...do they all go on like this?

Sniffing away!

Im not a dog person. I'm a cat person. Nothing against dogs. Just when do they sit down and relax.

If this was a cat she would be fast asleep by now.
She's sniffed and panted at every inch of the room . Aaaargh!

She came for a visit yesterday and two minutes of getting in my house she pooed on my lounge carpet.

How to stop this happening again.
Fortunately Dh has had plenty of dogs so I shall leave it in his care.

At least she's wagging her tail..so she can't be too upset.
She's a pampered pooch though.

DH is a dog lover and doesn't like cats . I'm a cat lover and I'm not really a dog lover.

So we have no pets.

I'll let you know how we get on....in the morning!

Our dog sleeps on the bed. She's large. And she sleeps under the covers.

Our toddler also often shares the bed.

A great big bed of love!!!

I appreciate not everyone isn't a dog lover. I also really like cats. But I LOVE dogs.

Here's mine as we speak:

We've got a dog .....for two nights
Dowser · 16/06/2016 08:49

DH took her for a walk about 11pm....and she had a poo.
She came in and went berserk. I mean really wild. Racing along the hall and lounge and back again.
I was worried she was going to give herself a heart attack.

Then DH went outside . Don't know whether he was putting the bin out and she got out. Thankfully I didn't know of this . Luckily she was so interested in what was outside she stopped to sniff it and he nabbed her.

So we made her bed up in the kitchen. By now it was midnight. Two minutes later DH said I think well have to let her sleep on the sofa.

So being such a lovely man, he took one of the bedrooms off the lounge which was good because at 1 am she was crying to be with someone. So he let her in the bedroom.

So I had a good night thanks to my lovely DH . Got about seven hours.

So on that basis ..it's dog 1 . Us 0

He let her out on the patio and next things she's barking away. The nightshift worker will be in bed and our patio is next to their bedroom.

Anyway she's going back to her own home today while we are out so I won't worry about her disturbing him.
Thank god it's only two nights.

Cor. I need to get cracking. We have to be out in 30 minutes.

Taking her to her home Is ten minutes in the opposite direction to where we are going.
DH is playing with it. Instead of cracking the whip and chivvying me along.

( I need a lot of time of a morning. I'm a night person really.)

Sorry I meant...her ;-)

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 16/06/2016 09:42

So she did end up in the bedroom....

Grin
Dowser · 16/06/2016 11:03

Yep! His lol

Any thoughts of wanting a little dog to go out for walkies with have now been consigned to the bin!

In that respect it's been a good experiment.

OP posts:
ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 16/06/2016 11:25

It's been contaminated as an experiment though.
If you had a puppy on your you can train it to sleep outside the bedroom.
maybe

lovemysunnydays · 16/06/2016 11:32

They're just missing their owner :) Lots of hugs for them, they'll love the love x

Dowser · 16/06/2016 14:35

True Chardonnay but they are very tying and we like to just get up and go....when we have some energy.

Plus when you leave them at home, you're worrying or wondering about them all the time.

If they've pood!

I can't figure out if the tone of this thread is supposed to be light hearted. Don't think I would be leaving my dogs with you for a day never mind two nights! No offence but you don't sound very clued up even on the basics i.e. dogs still need walked when it's raining Hmm

Does your friend not have any 'doggy' friends she could have left her it with?

streetdog · 16/06/2016 14:54

My dog was elsewhere yesterday and I did wonder for a minute... 😂

Mine is perfect at home, snoozes all day , doesn't bark etc and is no bother.

At my parents shes a nightmare. Dives around barking, flies round the house at break neck speed.

pigsDOfly · 16/06/2016 17:03

You sound completely out of your depth OP with this poor dog. Next time the owners go away perhaps someone else should look after her.

Had to chuckle at the idea that if it's raining the poor thing doesn't get a walk. Snow, hail, rain, storm it's all the same to a dog, you get out there and walk for however long you'd walk it on a lovely spring day. And if the dog get home without rolling in something smelly and sticky, well that's a bonus.

If the dog isn't used to being away from her owner and her home she's going to be stressed and probably quite frightened, hence the pooing in the house and the whining. She probably just wants company and reassurance but mainly she wants her owners back.

Hope the rest of her stay isn't too trying.

Dowser · 16/06/2016 18:00

Shes doing ok actually. She's still breathing.

I wouldn't leave a dog with me either but DH is in charge and he's always had dogs ...so no one needs to call the RSPCA lol

They had a good mile and a half walk walk today and both are now flat out on the sofa together.

When she got in we had a game of grab the teddy and she won every time.

No doubt they'll be in the spare room again together tonight because she doesn't appear to like being anywhere on her own. She came into the garden with me but as soon as I came in....(couldn't leave the door open as its freezing...) she was barking to be in .

So yes. We're doing ok and I love the way DH is getting some exercise like he used to....but no, no dogs for us.

Re...minding the dog...I think we were the last hope

pigsDOfly · 16/06/2016 18:52

You sound as if you're doing much better today. Well done :)

They're not the easiest animals sometimes but as you say, dog is still breathing so it's not all bad.

Dowser · 16/06/2016 20:27

Lol...pigs.

I might even miss her when she goes home. I'm sure I will.

I do recommend anyone thinking of getting a dog to borrow one for a couple of days just to see if your lifestyle is suitable.
Ours definitely isn't .
We were out from 9-30 till 4-30 . Its too long . She's a good dog. I'm sure these some who would have ransacked the house in that time.

That's not normally the case , we had appointments.

But no, it's not ideal. With cats you don't have to worry like that.

OP posts:
Dowser · 17/06/2016 10:54

A quieter night last night. Think she was worn out after her long walk and play with her soft toy.

She's devoted herself to DH . Think she's after another walk.

We've just had a preacher at the door. She didn't half bark .he stuck to his guns though and didn't go away.
He was even trying to engage with DH while he was trying to retrieve dog that had escaped.

Shell be going home soon

:-(

OP posts:
pigsDOfly · 17/06/2016 11:37

There you've admitted it, you're going to miss her. You've even stopped calling her 'it' :).

Dog's are wonderful and they do get into your heart very quickly but they're not for everyone.

I'm guessing we won't be seeing you on here asking for advice about your new puppy anytime soon then?

Dowser · 17/06/2016 12:24

I've said to DH we might have to get a shit zhu in about ten years time when we've calmed down a bit.

We've just had an exhilaring game of teddy on a string..as I was getting a bit fed up of always losing out to the dog lol!

I think these two days might have done our neighbours a bit of good ....seeing how quiet we really are.

We've tried to keep the barking down...but he's up now, I can hear his video game on his tv on the wall behind our bed :-(

she's a good guard dog..I'll give her that . Barks at anything.

She was scratching away at the patio window . I thought she was wanting a poo..but no, she only wanted to get out and bark at something...anything really.

I wondered if she can hear next doors chickens.

OP posts:
Dowser · 17/06/2016 12:25

DH says he wishes I'd stop going on about the dogs bowels lol

OP posts:
Dowser · 17/06/2016 18:55

And now were dog free everyone.
Delivered her back to her mam where she is giving her the cold shoulder and sulking.
Thank you all for your support.
