Do your dogs play with other dogs?

Ddog LOVES other dogs. If we are out and he sees one he is desperate to play with it - but as per Mumsnet dog owner etiquette we keep him well under control and only let him go to the other dog when the other owner is happy for them to play. At the beach on Sunday out of about 20 dogs, only 2 played with him! The rest were either put straight on the lead when we approached or were so busy playing with toys or the waves that they ignored him. I felt really sorry for him! What do your dogs do?

My collie loves to play with other dogs and the spaniel is getting more social as time goes by (he had a rough start in life and has been nervous around unknown dogs).

No, my lot prefer to hunt. 2 are a little protective, the other quarters constantly: they're all gun dogs and have never been encouraged to play, our walks are woods based or training.

Mine loves to play and will make a beeline for other dogs if he's allowed. I always put him back on the lead if I see another dog is on the lead though. We walk on the beach regularly and there are usually a few digs for him to have a run around with. We also have a small local field which is used by all the local dog walkers. It's almost a social club for the dogs as they all get to know one another. There's usually someone there who wants to play.

My dog loves to play with others. Approaching them is never a problem - she'll approach bowed down so low her chin touches the floor and within 2-3m she'll roll over on to her back for inspection. It's then for the other dog to approach and sniff, or leave her alone.

If they're sociable she'll want to play, and can rough it with the best of them. If they're not, she'll leave well enough alone quite happily.
