And decided to post that here for anyone who is debating/deciding whether or not to buy a puppy or dog.

Breakdown of costs

£36 pm health insurance, likely to double at least over her lifetime (even if no claims, if claims occur then who knows...)
Dog walk half an hour three days per week (whilst we are out in the morning) £120pm
Food and treats £30pm
Miscellaneous, jabs, check ups etc, £10pm

This figure does not include day care for when we need to go away for a day (fairly rare but occasionally necessary or holiday care if we cannot take her with us.

Obviously before we got DDog we worked out roughly how much each expense would be and we have the financial resources, so it's not a problem and she is worth every penny, but my good ness when you add it all up and realise it's around 2.5k a year it really opens your eyes!!!

How people on really low incomes cope with the expense I honestly have no idea!!

How much do other people's Ddogs cost them?

For my two it's:
£50 food
£50 insurance (28 for Ddog1, 22 for Ddog 2)
£20 bits and pieces
£10 special shampoo for Ddog1
£80 every other month for haircuts

Zooplus 100 cow ears £22.99

I'm booked to go somewhere/do something dog sport related three weekends out of every four so far this year. Shock One agility dog, two sled dogs and a show dog all with conflicting schedules and pricey entries, usually at opposite ends of the country. Wouldn't change it for anything but I'm sure plenty of people think I'm nuts.

I have 2 springers , they cost £60 pm - 1 sack organic Burns food (lasts 6 wks) so averages out to 30.00
chews/biscuits approx 10.00
clipping averages out 20.00
walked by family . No insurance( rip off). Would use interest free credit card if needed.

Plus use retired family when we go on holiday-so no kennel fees.

Also never used a de-flea treatment in their lives. They have never had fleas and they are 12yrs and 13yrs. Also we do not worm them with those hideously poisonous toxins. This saves a fortune.

On an average month I don't spend that much and I have two large breeds.
Food £50 (skinners)
Insurance £20 (only one dog though as the other can't be insured)
Petrol to drive them to remote places so I don't have to walk around other people!

So proberbly about £100 between them by the time I have bought treats and other bits of rubbish they don't need.

However I did spend a fortune on a new car, training, behaviouralists at £110 a session, 6 foot fencing to keep them in, vaccinations etc etc so it may be more than I thought! Blush

I thought long and hard before getting ddog, my last dog was quite expensive and I was a single parent for his beloved last few years. The cost of keeping dogs has shot up.
Now I have savings in a separate account so no insurance costs but lost a chunk of savings so can't quantify that.
Food is £11-15 every six weeks (ddog was runt of litter and has stayed tiny he weighs 4k). He also gets a bit of whatever I am eating and I have lost half a stone in the year since I got him so that's a win win
I only work part time so walk him (carry him when he gets tired) every day

I am going to check out the Cinnamon trust as that sounds great but also do you know where dog food given in the supermarkets goes? I will start putting it in every week.
