After many years of dithering, DH has finally agreed we can get a dog Grin but have no idea what to get. We haven't got a massive house or utility room so nothing too huge (I'd love a lab & definitely too big but DH has said preferably too tiny) must be good with children, obviously regular walks no problem but we haven't got time for twice daily hikes although it would be great if I could run with it occasionally, not too hairy (fluffy cats are enough already)I work from home and DH will take him out with him some days so will always be in company.
Any suggestions? And where do we look to buy a dog?

Very excited McPeePer household Smile

Tiny I've not owned one, but when I go to visit a relative of mine that has two, my clothes all leave looking white!! But I am aware that this relative definitely does not care for them properly so it doesn't surprise me to hear your comment. Poor babies.

Lagotto or Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.

I second going to have a look round your local rescue. I had a beautiful ridgeback/mastiff cross (bit big for your criteria!) and also a whippet/staffy cross (looked like a beautiful gremlin with massive batwing ears!) - both rescues, both amazing with my children and both lovely, kind and gentle dogs who loved a good fuss and curl up in front of the fire. The whippet staff cross loved chasing a ball and playing out and would walk for hours. I would definitely consider a whippet or whippet cross in your situation.

Thank you all - so much to think about. The rescue is gorgeous tough but a dog needing an adult family that is anxious meeting new faces will not
Work in a busy household with loads of kids coming & going!
I've never heard of lagottos they are beautiful and sound idea for us but again, lots to discuss & think about especially wrt puppy or rescue

And remember that rescues have puppies too - ddog2 was born in rescue and in the two weeks around that they had 21 puppies born with them. Let alone the dumped ones!
