I'm absloutely heartbroken.

I'm really struggling with my 4 year old chocolate Labrador. Iv had her since she was 7 weeks, been training & she's always been there for me.

But she so hyper and can't be in the same room if people come round as she just jumps all over them.

Iv had trainers out but no help. She's walked 3x a day which I'm struggling with, I'm having a tough pregnancy with spd and children already. She is loving and adores attention but I just don't have the time for her.

I feel physically sick, more for my daughter who will miss her like mad.

She's wrecked my garden and the kids can't even go out anymore :( we're moving in March and I worry she will do the same. I spent hundreds doing the garden up last summer and within a week she pulled all the flowers and things up.

Wherabouts are you, harboromummy? If in Scotland, I know someone who may well be able to help you settle her. This person has helped another mumsnetter.

Rehoming would be a total last resort for me, after I'd tried everything else. It really does sound like you're giving up too easily.

I've a (just turned) 3 year old choc lab girl who we trained from day one and she's a complete joy to have around. Yes, she has her moments but I couldn't begin to think about giving her away.

Tell us more about the walks...
My 2 year old very fit working lab gets 2 walks a day, but on one of those (usually the morning one), we are throwing balls with a handle thrower thing, non-stop, for about half an hour. We stop when she is too knackered to run back with the ball and has to walk back instead, and when she gets back home, she goes straight to bed and stays there.
The afternoon walk still has plenty of running around, and sniffing things. A walk that is just walking isn't enough...

Can you walk her with another dog so the two of them can play and tire each other out?
And get some kongs etc for home so she can channel her energy at those rather than on wrecking the garden

My choc lab bitch is 11 now and is still bouncy and hyper but choc labs are trainable. Don't be too disheartened as although they are loveable and loving dogs, they are hard work. My older dd could not cope with her dog despite long walks etc.

She was taken to dog training, which was often hilarious, as you will find there are many dogs so much worse than your own. Totally unsuitable breeds sold to elderly owners etc.

I personally found training her at home much better. Start with the issue that annoys you the most. Mine was her rushing back into the house to get to her food dish smashing into my legs and knocking my younger kids over which I just hated. I taught her to wait and sit down at the door, then once given permission she goes in, but only then. Good behaviour was rewarded with a treat. I am certainly not great at training but I managed this one.

Once you have got rid of the worst aspect, then perhaps you will find her easier to cope with. Putting her in a crate is also a good idea, although I don't have one myself.

Labs are really one of the nicest breeds of dogs and although matters look bad at the moment, I think you may regret rehoming her. Don't get me wrong, mine is still annoying and will still dig the garden given half a chance.

Hi op sorry you are struggling. If you are in Devon let me know - I'm looking to foster or adopt a companion for my cocker but I won't consider another puppy - manic I can handle - mine already is.

Meanwhile I always shut my dog in the kitchen when I have people over - he is given a Kong or whatever and he's fine then I will let him in to see our visitors towards the end.

Op your dog sounds very bored - not a criticism just an observation
