Good pet insurance

Hi can anyone recommend a really good pet insurance company, we're currently with tesco but after reading the cavalier King Charles spaniel thread (I have the same dog) I'm worried I need to upgrade to something better.
I read that thread in tears, I'm really worried that my dog is a ticking time bomb for ill health or even worse! It's really petrified me 😢

I haven't read the other thread so I have no idea what was said. Please don't get too upset. Just because a breed is prone to things doesn't mean your dog will get it. Having said that good insurance is a must. I have PetPlan's covered for life policy. It is not the cheapest but they don't hike their prices at the annual renew each year and they have always paid out promptly without quibble for me. They have seen me through old age for 2 dogs and all the arthritis/heart/kidney medication for chronic conditions over 3 or 4 years per dog.

Definitely investigate PetPlan. Although they seem pricey compared to others initially they don't tend to hike premiums up like a lot of companies do. They've also got a good reputation for paying out and a lot of vets will deal with them directly.

I'm pretty sure they also don't restrict their coverage of hereditary issues, which is obviously important given your worries. Some insurers won't always cover inherited conditions so whoever you go with you need to double check with them if they automatically exclude anything.

Another vote for Petplan.

I had Direct Line. Cheap-ish and when my dog, aged 4, had eye ops costing thousands of pounds they paid up without a quibble. By the time she was 10, the premiums had gone up from maybe £12 or £13 a month to... £125. And we were stuck with them, obviously.

I would not touch Direct Line with someone else's bargepole.

I'm with John Lewis (premier cover). Amazing customer service, as you'd expect.

So far Petplan have always paid out quickly for us, including a tricky digestive issue that took ages to get to under control, and not put up their rates.

I'm with pet plan for my border collie jett.

I have a cavalier King Charles who is aged 5 and she is insured with pet plan for life cover. Never had to use them but they were recommended by several dog lovers. Does your cab have a existing health issue? It's true they are prone to certain problems but mine is really fit, loves running and swimming and I feed her a raw food diet which she absolutely loves.

Pet Plan, hands down, but you need the Lifelong policy at the highest rate, and you need to keep up the payments.
