Is there some sort of hack I don't know about to make post - walk dog cleaning easier?

This time of year is a nightmare. We moved to a house with beige carpets which is an absolute nightmare this time of year. The dog goes for even a short walk and the carpet gets destroyed. We've just had a 40 minute walk and I've spent almost that again cleaning the dog; I have to wrap him in a huge towel at the door, carry him up 2 flights to the bathroom, run a bath, wrestle him in it, wash and dry him and then stop him going ape round the house afterwards. Bathroom is trashed and I need to get changed. Then he spends the next couple of hours sulking and giving me his "my life is so shit" face.

Short of having a tap plumbed in outside and hosing him down out the front, (can't afford it right now!) am I missing something? Xmas Confused

Do your dogs mind the drying bags? They seem like a great idea if they work.
If you have a separate shower cubicle I would suggest trying that. We used to have to wrestle the dog into the bath and he hated it but now I just take him in the other shower with me and he doesn't mind at all.

Agree also on a shower instead! Much quicker.

My dog loves her drying bag. She had one since a pup though. I train her to sit on it when we come in and then zip her up. Invariably she will sit there in it until ive taken off my shoes etc... Then i rub her down. Assess the damage, then decide on a wash or not :)

Pretty please can someone (Floralnomad or Dorsetmama?) post a link to your doggybag. The choice is pretty wide out there, and with very mixed reviews, so I'd rather have a 'word of mouth' recommendation. My Shih Tzu hates having a post-walk rub down with a towel (impatient wee bugger), so this could be a lifesaver for me. Thanks!

Dorsetmama · 12/12/2015 15:37

Sure :)

Dorsetmama · 12/12/2015 15:40

Here is the one I use. I got a small for my dog. The size guide is good. Expensive but they also dry quickly and wash at low temperature so its a long term investment :) www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Microfibre+doggy+bag

If the link doesn't work, then go to amazon and search Microfibre Doggy Bag and check out the one that has a paw print logo and comes with a duffel bav. xx

Dorsetmama · 12/12/2015 15:41

Bag not bav!

You mean tip not hack don't you? Smile

Hack is the modern tip, M48294Y

I would replace the carpet with something like quickstep.

Beige carpets are a nightmare.

orangeyellowgreen · 13/12/2015 20:52

Just towels. Rub with lots of towels then banish to utility or kitchen with hard floors. You cannot possibly be bathing after every walk, you'd have no time for anything else and baths are bad for dog skin.

imonaplane · 13/12/2015 23:02

I have a mixer tap plumbed in outside now but before that luxury I used a watering can filled with warm soapy water.

Floralnomad · 14/12/2015 06:35

I use the same one as dorset , but I got mine from a stall at Olympia horse show , they are more expensive but very sturdy and IMO work better than the cheaper types , we had a cheaper one before . I got a medium for my dog and he's a Patterdale x .

Bethieboo25 · 14/12/2015 18:45

I have a frenchie so don't have too much bother with the muddy belly unless we have been in the mega muddy fields. .. I buy non perfume sensitive baby wipes (u can buy dog cleansing wipes but they are a bit more expensive) and when we get home just give the wee paws a good clean. In winter I put a bit runner rug in hall too for the mega muddy walkies.. just in case he make a run for the heat when we get in (frenchies don't do cold!!)

Maybe clipping the belly fur if that's a problem and the dry bag is a great idea (and looksnhilarious)

Good luck and ur doggie is cute x

Is it easy to get a dog into the doggy bag? Tempted to get one for my Cav. Hates having his paws cleaned but loves his top half being rubbed with a towel. I can just imagine him sitting in it with his big sad eyes looking at me Xmas Grin

Floralnomad · 14/12/2015 22:59

I lay the bag out and he walks onto it for me to do up and then I pick him up and put him where I want him to sit whilst he dries . I find it best to do the Velcro neck bit up first then do the zip .

DickDewy · 14/12/2015 23:05

My dog gets on his bed until he is told he can get off. If he's really atrocious, he's dried off with a towel.

HarrietSchulenberg · 14/12/2015 23:10

You need a Self Cleaning Lurcher Wink. The Hound of the Schulenbergs has v short hair that miraculously rids itself of mud after long walks. I think a licky tongue might be involved, though, and if he's been in the car his seat cover is very mucky when he gets out (looking pristine).
For carless walks I have an outside tap and have been known to phone home from far-flung fields instructing whoever answers to get the shampoo out and the hosepipe plugged in ready for our return Grin.

Sorry - am very late at replying to this but thank you for all the suggestions - am thinking a watering can/baby bath sounds like a good plan. Will also check out the dog bags! Thank you! Star
