how to stop puppy climbing on the table/sofa

she is 5 months old and very naughty! I continually tell her to get down and give her a treat when she does. Also ensure that no food is left on the table after mealtimes etc, and push all chairs in so that she can't climb up. But if I forget, and turn my back for a moment, there she is, standing on the table. Sofa the same - will get off if told (usually) but constantly jumping up on it. Will she just get it eventually, or should I be doing something different. Can distract her with kong/chew for a while...

she is usually in her crate when we eat, so it's easy enough to clear the table before letting her out. And girls now quite good about pushing chairs all the way under, and moving bench away. I just need to remember the 100% thing and apply it better. She is never allowed upstairs either.

Perhaps a short, sharp visit from the smack fairy?

Generally resorted to by the more stupid owners, I find.

rhetorician you've had some good advice. I would just add making sure that there is nothing on the work tops that rewards her when she does jump up. Lift her down without comment and then ignore her. Go back to her later, while she is still on the floor and do the dropping of treats thing so she associates the treats with the floor and not the work top. And be consistent!

I'm immensely grateful for the useful advice - DD2 has taking to ratting on Ddog "Ripley on the sofa!!" yelled at the top of her lungs

You're lucky, mine encourage the dog on the sofas. Grin

DD1 is constantly bringing the dog for a cuddle..on the sofa.

I think you might be rewarding her with attention when she gets on the table. What happens if you turn your back on her and walk off?

Sorry, someone has already suggested this!
